Some of you may well have read about the car I bought last week from a salvage auction (with eyes wide open). I've now gone through the diagnostics in detail (there were literally hundreds of fault codes showing), and have cleared all but a few minor errors - things that won't affect running, like 'faulty humidity sensor' and 'rear right door module not calibrating'. The only engine-related issue is a secondary air sensor that's playing up, however, that should not stop it running. BUT - although it fires up every time, it still won't run for more than about a second.
What confuses me is that the fuel tank is rammed - when I tried to put some in from a can yesterday, it backed up out of the filler tube it was so full. But the fuel pump symbol is still showing on the dash - which I assume means that it thinks it's low on fuel, and there's a message saying 'Range Low'. I would therefore be most grateful if someone who runs one of these cars would be kind enough to confirm that I'm right about these two things.
If I am correct, then it would appear to be something related to the fuel pick-up or fuel pump. Unfortunately, since the engine only fires up momentarily, I can't do a live fuel pressure reading. And I've had to give the diagnostic computer back!
I also have to confess that having never seen the dash on one of these before, I don't understand the fuel gauge - I've attached a somewhat blurred photo here. The battery light goes out when it (briefly) starts, so at least that seems to be OK.
NB: Please ignore the CEL - it didn't run when I cleared that either!
