extra 5-10bhp out of a gransport compared to a (non-benny) 4200/spyder isnt it? Be interesting to see if anyone could actually tell any difference between the two "tunes" of the dbw box.

Grinzzz, I think you may be confusing the DBW with the ECM module. The latter can give higher BHP, but can also be optimized by Jeff for other configurations, such as increased torque only.

For those interested in the DBW, note that not all modules are the same. I found my original package too 'mild', and so had Jeff configure the switch to support not just an 'aggressive' but also a 'very aggressive' setting. This latter mode was absolutely perfect for me, but I know that the guys who service the car find it a bit to lairy for their liking!

Sorry, didnt make myself clear. I meant if theres different boxes for GS and 4200 it would be interesting to see if there was a difference. The only difference between a GS and 4200 that I know of is the engine bhp is 5-10 more in the GS. I thought everyone agreed that post facelift 4200s with updated software were identical to the GS in the drivetrain, or have I got that wrong?

Sorry MAF, yes I did buy it from R8NAN yesterday.

The GS has different throttle mapping to the 4200, as it has quicker shifting in stock format. That's why the FD DBW is very effective on the 4200 (as it was on my previous car), but less so (marginally) on the GS. It'll be interesting to compare the improvement once I fit it. If I recall the sales literature correctly, the few extra bhp in the GS come from the exhaust.

I reckon an Indie with the correct software could download the GS software into a 4200 and improve the gear change that way.

Absolutely, though so could any electronic tuner that can read the TCU. IIRC the guys that did your re-map offer it.

I remember reading a few years ago that the very slight hike in horsepower was down to engine mechanics, not electronic settings. I'll see if I can find the article online that mentioned it.

[edit]
Here is some info off Wikipedia:
"[the GS] is powered by the same 4244 cc, 90° V8 petrol engine used on the Coupé and Spyder. However, the engine develops 400 PS (294 kW; 395 hp) at 7000 rpm due primarily to a different exhaust system and improvements on the intake manifolds and valve seat."

The GS gear change IMHO isn't that great as it stands. The only good bit is the 'blip' on the downshift.

I agree, but it's an improvement on the standard 4200 and it should be very cheap/ free.

I could be right in saying that my 4200 has the updated software, I get the blip on downshift and as far as I know it is basically the same setup as the GS.

I'm not surprised you snapped it up, Miles. I've never driven a car with it fitted, would love to see/feel the difference.

The difference I think is not really between 4200 and GS, but the difference in model years with a different gearbox ECU unit, therefore different DBW module. See attached.

Pose as an interested buyer and go test drive mine at Autofficina!

(On the off chance that you can be bothered to, the DBW switch is below the steering column and just to the right.)

I will have to ask Marios which software I have loaded in to my 42..??

Surely it's not so much the software (which I presume can/was updated) but more so the hardware which I again presume cannot be so easily updated.

If the hardware is the same, can't you update the software so that it is the same as well?
