The Mayor of Paris (currently visiting the new Mayor of London) is famously anti-car, and with that in mind new legislation comes into force at the end of June. Older and high-polluting cars will be banned from the city on weekdays. Other European cities expected to follow suit...

What odds on Sadiq K taking on that idea for London?

Most London buses are leased and less than 5 years old. The historic fleet will be given an exception.

London cabs are newish too.

As for Paris...well it will rid them of some crappy old Pugs and Renaults...but anything pre 2000 in Paris deserves to be saved for history surviving arson and dreadful driving/parking etc.

Rules out my Golf and MX5. Interestingly when emission tested for MOT both passed with much cleaner and lower emissions than our QAshqai and QP so this is just ********!

I think it's in place in Milano and some cities in Germany already.. They won't these old 80/90's cars off the road permanently

0ld car usage on the third Sunday every month for a couple of hours might become a reality..

I sorta suppose if you have bonafide classic car and its registered as such with the DVLA the camera's won't bother you to much

Kicks in today chaps:

As of today (Friday 1 July) cars registered before 1 January 1997 – and commercial vehicles registered before 1 October 1997, and motorbikes before 1 June 1999 – are banned from central Paris during day time week days.

The ban also applies to foreign vehicles.

The area covered is inside the peripherique ring road – except the Bois de Boulogne and Bois de Vincennes woods – from 08:00-20:00 Monday to Friday.

Outside these times and areas there are no restrictions except for 3.5t vehicles registered before 30 September 2001 which are banned permanently.

Fines kick in from 1 October 2016, at €35 for a car or bike (rising to €450 for a second offence).

From 1 July 2017 the fine increases to €68 for a car or bike and €135 for a commercial vehicle.

As of 1 September 2015 commercial vehicles 3.5t plus registered before 30 September 2001 were banned in central Paris, part of a rolling progressive ban on older vehicles set to run until 2020.

From 1 January 2017 the zone will be policed by windscreen ‘vignette’ stickers.

Until then, police may ask to see the registration document.

So, it looks like a period of education over the summer period, with no actual fines until October. The second day fine will be eye-watering though!!

Time for Brexit before its imposed in Britain.

:D Peroni slipping down nicely Phil?

I understand the current Mayor of London is extremely interested in this plan... Willing to bet it appears within a few years in London.

yup, I would agree with that and add that other "big" cities in the UK will follow suit. there also seems to still be a push to reduce the number of deisel engines in built up areas so I expect to see smokers getting pulled in to any ban too.

Unless your English as they won't be able to tell what year they are and have not access to UK DVLA. There only chance would be a spot fine.

Another good reason for leaving the EU.

My Ducati just squeaks through by two months. :)

But will be banned from London under the ULEZ changes coming soon. :(

Maybe I'll move to Paris.
