Surely it's not *that* rare, Dave?! ;)

Dem I could probably nip over and do it for you. Nice little Hosrtman. 7 day timer so you can set it to come on and off throughout the day depending on if you expect to be in our out, then later at the weekends, so you don't have to experience the horror of living ooop norf and having to move sliders on a Friday night like Wack does ;)

Thank you for your kind offer

Agree with above and chuffed Chris agrees with a post of mine,
Dem, will literally take an hour at most to wire in the units and set it up,
Out of curiosity do you have Thermostatic valves on your radiators?
Otherwise you are literally chucking £'s away!
Dave
I have some numbers on the rads that you can turn up or down

I have just installed a Tado thermostat to the house, and it controls the heating depending on whether you are at home! it senses where you are based on the location of your phone. I like it so far, and reckon it might just save me some money. I will be looking at Z-wave now however that sounds like good toys!

Whilst we are on the subject of thermostats, I am having a new boiler fitted at the office in the Spring, currently the thermostat is in the downstairs office and thus they control the temperature.

All I want to do is control this on my smartphone...dont really want to pay £250 as I could just move the thermostat, what are my options?

I Think the Tado thermostat i have would do this as it is battery powered and just replaces the existing thermostat, it was easy to fit, did it myself, required an internet connection for the router hub thing. Costs about 150 quid tho, so its only a little less than Hive.

That seems acceptable, thanks.

Yep the Z-wave controller links to your app and you can set a geofence. In fact you can set lots of geofences. And because everything is controlled in the same place, you can make the system do anythign depending on where you are.

It's really limited only by your own desire to dig into the weeds. Oh it also has IR converters, so can also control just about any piece of electronic equipment with an IR remote. The controlls are all web app based, so any other machine in your house can make a call to the system to perform actions and vice versa (my Vera can start and stop the radio in my bedroom, for example, just by running an SSH script)

If you just want remote control rather than smart phone control then the honeywell wireless thermostat / programmer is around £120. Works well enough and decent wireless range. You can leave it in the room you want to reach set temperature or move it from room to room with you.

Good call!

Indeed it looks pretty powerful, but could also consume most of my spare time and the contents of my wallet! But I know about it now so its probably only a matter of time!! :)

I have the wireless Honeywell thingy and I fitted it myself - so it must be easy.
It does everything I want from it without use of mobile 'phones, internet, Quantum Mechanics etc.
You set a program up for each day and leave it alone (there is a manual adjustment available too) and it is very economical. My experience also tells me that a new boiler (my old one was 15 years plus old) is also a good investment and made a dramatic reduction in gas bills

Thanks Dave, the boiler in our office is the original one and at 20 years old it works but not efficiently, hence the change.

As Ill be renting out the offices as a pension I feel its a false economy to struggle on with it. Windows will need doing too which I am not looking forward to the bill.

If it works, wait a couple of months as I'll have a bit of kit that goes on domestic boilers ready for next year. Will knock 15-20% off your gas consumption.
It's just getting tested by the BRE.

Will retail for around £150 but I'm sure I'll be able to offer a healthy SM discount.

Initial discussions with some energy companies look very encouraging. NPower want 20,000 on a trial subject to the BRE certification.

As of 1st January all energy companies have to start helping their domestic customers reduce their energy consumption.
