Hi all,
Prompted by the other fob thread! When I bought my GT it only came with one key and I knew this was going to be a problem - the thought of getting Timpson to clone it seemed like the only option but then knowing that its an Alfa at heart I did some digging and found a guy in the know. Basically the body computer is the same as an Alfa 147/GT, the keys have a rolling code for the immobilizer chip. Cloning can cause issues and also means you can't copy the remote function.
So, step forward my new contact - he can interrogate the body computer and retrieve the rolling code enabling the creation of a 'new key' with remote functionality (although the boot release doesn't seem to work sometimes). He is an Automotive locksmith and if interested I can put people in touch with him - cost is less than £200.
The bad news - he needs to remove the body computer to do it and solder on to it - I was brave but see below if you want to get into that!
