Full service history & very good condition in & out - just a few stone chips
Perfect GT car with a 6 speed Auto that really suits the car + flappy paddles & sport button for when you're...
It's with them now, the car has only rattled once on startup ever, so I am taking a chance on just doing the cam covers & valves & see if this works predicatively to stop the rattle coming back
If it doesn't it isn't dead money as the full fix involves doing some of this work anyway
Cost is...
Not that relevant but... passenger seat only slides forward intermittently on my car
You can reset it with the old left right left right malarkey but what I have found is that if you close the door whilst it is still sliding back, or move the seat back back before it has finished sliding back...
I just put new rears on my GT 4.2, had the Pirellis on before & wasn't that impressed
Am used to driving Porsches so switched to MPSS and didn't think it made that much difference
The car is so heavy you can't really throw it around and expect the back not to come out like how you can in a 997 C4S
Hi it is a Granturismo
Why do you think it would be a waste?
Even if it does need the full job doing in the future - I won't have wasted the cost of the machining, the valves. And Shiltech seem a bit cheaper than the other indis too
Update on this, got the rattle for the 1st time ever last week, car was very cold and had been sitting for a week
The bloke @ Shiltech recommended just taking the cam covers off, machining them to put in a non-return valve and reassembling for £900 including VAT
To be honest as the full fix is...
I wish I earned that in a week!
£3k is manageable though, moreso than the £12k Porsche 997 rebuild cost that I stared down the barrel of a gun at for 4 years
The way he explained it to me was that the £1.5k is just for the cam caps machining work which doesn't involve replacing variators or retiming the engine
If the variator rattle issue is caused by damage to the variators due to oil starvation on shutdown on engines that don't have the oil non...
Does machining the cam caps stop the fault from occuring in the 1st place - should I do it premptively to save the expense of replacing the variators?
As my understanding is that doing the cam caps doesn't require all the labour of re-timing the engine so it would be a significantly cheaper job...
There's nothing to stop someone clocking it every year though before service / MOT to shave say 70% of the miles driven before it gets recorded on the certificate / service book is there... It seems that these cars' values are very milage sensitive (more so than Porsche which is more of an every...
I see there are a load of places here in the UK who can 'correct' my car's mileage... it's of no interest to me (it's already higher than average anyway as per the service file) but got me wondering if it could have already been done to the car? Are there any ways of checking? On my 997 it...
It was split from inside out, looked like it had burst, big hole in it you could easily pass a 5p coin through
Re repair cost... it is all relative. The guy had repaired a NA California engine last week that Ferarri wanted £45k to replace. Cost £13k for the rebuild. Ouch.
