So, I know there have been a few threads on here before but thought I'd add to the tale of woe. A while back I noticed that I no longer had beeps on locking/unlocking so then set the alarm off and realised that despite the indicators flashing there was no siren! No, wait I can faintly hear it but only just. Therefore I assumed that the battery in the siren was knackered and I needed a new one, however being tight I thought I'd buy a 2nd hand Alfa one from a breakers for £20, albeit from a later year - they are supposed to be interchangeable.
Fast forward, offside wheel off, wheelarch liner retaining bolts seized, managed to free enough to get to the siren. Unbolt siren, drop ratchet onto back of side repeater which shatters retaining clip - *. Order new side repeater, same as Fiat 500 & Ford Ka. Fit replacement siren, does it work? Does it *!! Took old siren apart to check battery (see pics), battery pack has good voltage. Not sure but maybe there is another battery in the actual speaker but sealed so didn't go there.
Fast forward to today - Replaced side repeater and did more research into siren circuit. See that activation comes from body computer, ok so let's check the continuity.
Body computer out - only takes 5mins and notice that one of the rear connectors isn't fully seated and sure enough this is the connector that has the cable to siren in it. Yay, surely this must be it. Continuity check to siren is good from the connector. This same connector then took 45mins to get back into it's socket only after realising you need to remove the one next to it whilst upside down in the footwell. Trust me don't remove your body computer!! Getting the rear connectors back on is an absolute nightmare as there is no free play in the wiring loom.
Anyhow, all back together and guess what, the siren still doesn't work - so either my replacement is duff or the connector has moved on the body computer when putting it back. Think I can live without the beeping for now..........
