    Funny or clever number plates

It was 'PEN 15' - it belonged to Steve Parrish, who had it on several cars over the years. When it was on his SL500 I shared the drive back from Nurburgring with him one year; I was doing the on-board computers on his Mercedes race-trucks at the time. As we drove through the customs sheds at...

If anyone needs any QP VI GTS parts...

I suspect that I'll be needing the front subframes, but time will tell!

If anyone needs any QP VI GTS parts...

Some of you may recall that I recently bought a 2015 GTS from a salvage auction. What I didn't say was that I actually only bought it for the engine and some of the running gear (brakes, wheels, suspension) - the plan was to use them in an upcoming RestoMod project. The problem was that when it...

    Range Low?

True - but when the MIL comes on for the secondary air, it masks any another problems that later crop up, so I intend to strip the front of the engine bay out to see if I can identify the problem. It'll have to wait until my Land Rover gets MOT'd though - I was hoping to take it today, but had...

    Range Low?

OK - the main fault is 'P2431-00 Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow Sensor Circuit Performance Bank 1'. There were also a few things like 'Can C Bus Performance' and 'Implausible Signal Received From Transmission Module', but these messages seem to come and go as they feel like it! The...

    Range Low?

I've got the original faults written down - that is, the ones that came with the car, but the latest ones are still in the ECU. I have to get my Defender through an MOT this afternoon, but as it still needs a lot of work (turbo failure on a brand new cartridge), the GTS will have to wait for now...

    Range Low?

Yes, it does - the problem I'm having though is that I'm not convinced that they're 'genuine' faults. As they seem to be so transient and not directly related to each other, I'm wondering if there's a loose connector block or chafed wiring somewhere!

    Range Low?

An update - the car has mostly been as good as gold, however, it did completely freeze up on me on Tuesday. I'd stopped for fuel, and when I got back in the car - nothing. I sat there for a few moments trying to think of a reason for its tantrum, but couldn't come up with anything obvious - such...

    Range Low?

I ordered one this afternoon! I went for an Autel MaxiDAS DS808S-TS. I hope I chose the right one - it seems to do all the necessary things, but there's a mind-boggling array of different models to choose from and so little informed feedback to help you decide...

    Range Low?

Well - I thought the special funnel was in the toolkit that got stolen, but it turns out that it was still in its plastic bag in the little niche in the polystyrene insert that goes in the spare wheel well. I only found out when I re-fitted all the trim, etc. this morning. Consequently, I was...

    Range Low?

Unfortunately, some low-life stole the original toolkit after the auction, so I don't have access to the proper funnel. As for the fuel gauge - since I'd never seen one in operation, I didn't know whether it was showing full or empty until I saw a photo of one in the Owner's Handbook. It was...

    Range Low?

Thank you! I've just spent the evening re-fitting the rear seats - in and out, in and out, until I got the right combination of seat belts, wiring harnesses, etc. poking through in all the right places. If it proves OK on a test drive in the morning, I might even take it on to the local car...

    Range Low?

Well - I appear to have found the main 'fault' - that is, the no proper start... I removed the rear seats to get at the fuel pumps, made up a tool to undo the locking ring, and removed the pump - only to find the tank completely empty. When the car was delivered on the back of a transporter, the...

    Range Low?

From what I can see online, Bank 1 is the right hand side, looking forward from the driver's seat. As they say, every day is a school day! As for the ITM error - yes, I agree!
  15. P

    Range Low?

Yes, I agree. I've just spent the last hour transcribing all the fault codes I scribbled down yesterday so that I have a properly documented record of them. It would appear that the live ones were: Driver’s Door: B1DD0-15 Mirror Heater Control Circuit short to battery or open R/R Door: B224F-54...

    Range Low?

It appears that instead of a simple inertia switch, there are a series of crash sensors - three down each side and two at the front. I'll try to work out exactly where they are and how they can be tested in the morning.

    Range Low?

I don't think that suggesting the fuel pump fuses is at all stupid - I've just been looking at the fuse position diagram to see where they're located, so we're obviously thinking along the same lines! I'll let you know if that's what it proves to be. In the meantime, I'm still trying to satisfy...

    Range Low?

We've just been discussing this very thing - any idea where it's located?

    Range Low?

Thank you for taking the time to reply and for the link - it's much appreciated! The diagnostic scanner that I borrowed was also an Autel - it was a laptop-sized device called a MaxiDAS DS808 which I may have to swipe back again for an hour or so. Methinks I'm going to have to start delving...

    Range Low?

Some of you may well have read about the car I bought last week from a salvage auction (with eyes wide open). I've now gone through the diagnostics in detail (there were literally hundreds of fault codes showing), and have cleared all but a few minor errors - things that won't affect running...
