    Another Variator question

It's with them now, the car has only rattled once on startup ever, so I am taking a chance on just doing the cam covers & valves & see if this works predicatively to stop the rattle coming back If it doesn't it isn't dead money as the full fix involves doing some of this work anyway Cost is...

    Granturismo seat query

Not that relevant but... passenger seat only slides forward intermittently on my car You can reset it with the old left right left right malarkey but what I have found is that if you close the door whilst it is still sliding back, or move the seat back back before it has finished sliding back...

ABS unavailable MSP unavailable ASR unavailable - Go to dealer

This is it in a nutshell, I would not be able to afford to run some of the cars I have had if I used main dealers, I have no faith in them whatsoever

Pzeros - Maserati spec or ???

I just put new rears on my GT 4.2, had the Pirellis on before & wasn't that impressed Am used to driving Porsches so switched to MPSS and didn't think it made that much difference The car is so heavy you can't really throw it around and expect the back not to come out like how you can in a 997 C4S

    Another Variator question

Hi it is a Granturismo Why do you think it would be a waste? Even if it does need the full job doing in the future - I won't have wasted the cost of the machining, the valves. And Shiltech seem a bit cheaper than the other indis too

    Another Variator question

Update on this, got the rattle for the 1st time ever last week, car was very cold and had been sitting for a week The bloke @ Shiltech recommended just taking the cam covers off, machining them to put in a non-return valve and reassembling for £900 including VAT To be honest as the full fix is...

    Another Variator question

I wish I earned that in a week! £3k is manageable though, moreso than the £12k Porsche 997 rebuild cost that I stared down the barrel of a gun at for 4 years

    Another Variator question

The way he explained it to me was that the £1.5k is just for the cam caps machining work which doesn't involve replacing variators or retiming the engine If the variator rattle issue is caused by damage to the variators due to oil starvation on shutdown on engines that don't have the oil non...

    Another Variator question

Does machining the cam caps stop the fault from occuring in the 1st place - should I do it premptively to save the expense of replacing the variators? As my understanding is that doing the cam caps doesn't require all the labour of re-timing the engine so it would be a significantly cheaper job...

    Milage adjustment / clocking

There's nothing to stop someone clocking it every year though before service / MOT to shave say 70% of the miles driven before it gets recorded on the certificate / service book is there... It seems that these cars' values are very milage sensitive (more so than Porsche which is more of an every...

    Milage adjustment / clocking

I see there are a load of places here in the UK who can 'correct' my car's mileage... it's of no interest to me (it's already higher than average anyway as per the service file) but got me wondering if it could have already been done to the car? Are there any ways of checking? On my 997 it...

Help! Steam / smoke from Granturismo 4.2 have I broken it!?

It was split from inside out, looked like it had burst, big hole in it you could easily pass a 5p coin through Re repair cost... it is all relative. The guy had repaired a NA California engine last week that Ferarri wanted £45k to replace. Cost £13k for the rebuild. Ouch.

Help! Steam / smoke from Granturismo 4.2 have I broken it!?

That was exactly the part - the short one had burst completely. The long one looked fine but they changed it anyway given the incredible amount of effort to get to it and low cost of the part It's not as pretty with the inlet manifold off is it

Help! Steam / smoke from Granturismo 4.2 have I broken it!?

To be honest it's a huge relief for a Maserati engine problem The way I see it is that I saved about £60,000 on depreciation by buying an 8 year old car so I'm still up!!! Man maths at its best!

Help! Steam / smoke from Granturismo 4.2 have I broken it!?

So the shop called, a coolant pipe that goes between the 2 cylinder banks at the back of the engine has burst. New pipe on order along with another one in a similarly un-accessible position for good order's sake. Need to come over from Italy which takes 3 days. Bad news is that the inlet...

Help! Steam / smoke from Granturismo 4.2 have I broken it!?

It's on a truck now making it's way to storage for the night before heading to SMDG Performance near Horsham in the morning. I've had it for 5 months and done over 4000 miles in it with no overheating so am sure it had coolant in! As the water temp meter got hotter towards red but I stopped...
