I would still have to allow an extra 5 mins to 'get my eye in' every time I wanted to know what time it was.

No - I exaggerated for effect. But they did say I should get it pressure tested every 2 years. Personally, I think I should expect a seal to be guaranteed not to fail for a little longer than that. (and when I say little, I mean 'lot'!)
