Afternoon,

As part of my ongoing mid life crisis i am keen on these, not sure i would ever ride them again but as a pretty object to collect i do like them.

Is a mid 90's Colnago / De Rosa frame really worth £2000 or is it supply and demand - if somebody is stupid enough to pay that, then that is the price ?

I cant imagine any keen amateur would choose one over a modern Carbon frame, so where is the market - sad old guys reminiscing ?

I regularly look at De Rosa Titanio or Colnago Carbitubo frames, mainly because that was my era.

Thanks

This will give you a good indication of prices

https://steel-vintage.com/collections/bicycles. I did own a Colnago in Saronni red from 1990, beautiful bike to look at but hated riding it. I bought and sold it for £900

I’ve just sold a late 90s Simoncini frame for £100. I think some of the bigger names are overpriced especially considering the frames of theirs you saw the pros ride were usually made by the likes of Simoncini then badge as Colnago, De Rosa etc.

I think the answer is more “how much is it worth to you”
I would love to own a nice MK1 Chopper to hang on a wall in my den, but can’t get my head around the values so never pulled the trigger.

I have a colnago b stay frame with a campy groupset which is my winter bike. In its day it would have been a bike used by the professionals, but is it worth anything? A few hundred perhaps?

A business colleague is a fan of cycling and has several bikes. A few years ago he bought a carbon De Rosa at about £5k, but soon afterwards restored his old steel Peugeot racing bike from the 90’s, and it’s the Peugeot that he much prefers riding. So to him, the Peugeot is worth more.

I’m sure the new GranTurismo, at maybe £150k, is better to drive than a nicely restored Khamsin at £120k. But the Khamsin would be worth more to me.

So if 90’s bikes are your thing, rejoice in the fact that they an affordable pleasure and tuck in.

30 years ago I walked the dog on the same route for months, there was a chopper frame & forks, (no wheels) in a hedge for months, I must've walked past it 100 times, if only I'd picked it up.
