3200 GT refurbished clutch and pressure plate

Hi All,

As you may be aware, Maserati UK no longer have any 3200 manual clutch discs in stock, from what I have been told by Sachs; they will no longer be manufacturing them for Maserati.

I've since been talking to a friend of a friend about making some from scratch but the cost of doing this is very high and as such we probably won't get enough numbers. However, he is able to refurbish existing clutch discs and pressure plates and will even make new flywheels (as soon as we can get hold of an old one).

There are two options available, both organic (as the original) or Kevlar (uprated) and both include refurbishing the existing pressure plate. For the Kevlar upgrade, the flywheel also needs to be sent away to be reground.

Some of the benefits of the Kevlar upgrade are:
- A higher burst strength, this material stays on the plate
- Stays cool and doesn't cause the damage hot organic does
- Withstands the high temperatures of track day use
- Does not cause the wear damage ceramic does
- Copes well with high revving engines and quicker, more aggressive, gear changes
- Cost effective, this clutch lasts for years
- Incredibly, it is dust free!
- Retains the feel of organic

The exact cost is yet to be confirmed but both are considerably cheaper than buying a new set (if it was possible).

Is there any interest in this?

That sounds very interesting.

I don't need to replace any of these just yet, well I hope at least, but dependant on cost I may be interested.

Thank you for looking into starting another great initiative after the fantastic success of the brake discs

I have sent an e mail to Sachs performance in Germany. Actualy, they don't manufacture clutch discs, but only clutch coverings and release bearings for a total amount of 490 euros (385 GBP) incl. VAT. Shipment is free at the moment.
Can you tell us what would be the price so as to refurbish the disc ?

The cost of refurbishing the clutch disc (alone - excluding the pressure plate) is less than £125 delivered: now confirmed.

Being a consumable, I wonder what Maserati will do in order to get replacements.
Are they simply going to let the existing fleet of 3200 rot away due to the lack of consumables?

If so, I cannot see why anybody would buy a Maserati in the Future
These cars may be old but nowhere near the age at what I expected these problems to appear.

Without stamping on all your hard work, I can get clutch discs relined (organic) and resprung for £35!

They looked at doing the 4200 F1 clutch plate but were unable to but can do the traditional manual plates no problem.

Ill wait for Evo to conclude his efforts before I give out the details of my supplier.

Feel free to give the details out. £35 sounds great!

Sure, I have just dropped them an email to confirm the price as the £35 might have been a cash price, still, £50 should cover it including delivery which is a bargain.

Bah I just had my clutch done this summer (the thrust bearing grenade went off). I've been trying to get a slave cylinder as Maserati no longer supply those either.... Got new parts off a guy in Holland, much cheaper than UK suppliers. No where near as cheap as the relining route though.

Sachs performance sell the clutch covering and the release bearing for 490 euros, incl. VAT and shipment. But they don't manufacture discs anymore. NickP, can you tell me where did you bought your kit in the Netherlands ?

BTW its worth giving the guy a ring, he was extremely helpful and his English was better than mine! He may be able to offer an alternative. Any reason you aren't keen on re-lining option?

+1 on that.
He helped me out getting a water pump for my 3200 when I had problems sourcing one from Eurospares.
