Tappers, have you applied a voltage across the solenoid to see if it operates??
Yes Stuart, solenoid operates with 12v input. I can hear a faint relay "click" from boot when glovebox button pushed, just need to get someone push it with my head in the boot to locate it. Also making sure it has all parts where they should be as it's been played with before!

Apologies Tappets, car still in the garage so have yet to get some pictures. However it does sound like your solenoid is operating correctly so, like mine, just some minor adjustment.

Thanks Stuart Zep's pics above did the job. Found the problem, broken wires in rubber boot lume between boot lid and body! Constant bending during use and age the culprit. Now operates but further tinkering needed as takes 3 boot closes to get latch to "Reset" and lock! :mad:o_O

Happy days, good bit of fault finding...well done. My saga continues, apparently no one can recondition my alternator. One last shot tomorrow, otherwise I am looking at a new one and the subsequent excessive lead time....not happy.

Skid, It's rare that those Nippon Denso alternators fail, have you checked out the circuit correctly.... If you can get the parts, I know someone who could rebuild one!

Dave,
Not very electrically minded to that level. The alternator is only kicking out about 16amos and it should be 60+ so the assumption is that it is on its way out.
Not even sure what parts I would need or where to get them.

Finally, found someone prepared to refurbish it...hopefully it will not take too long. With my luck, it will be ready as the sun disappears...

A good auto electrician can refurb alternators with their eyes closed...........I did my own replacing brushes and machining slip rings with the help of local machine shop.
Here's a pic of the broken wires re:boot release. Unfortunately the wires had worked their way down the lume so had to slice open rubber boot to locate. Also had to adjust solenoid bracket so latch could reset.......got there eventually :p

You can adjust the lock at the bottom, might just need moving up a few mm.???
I adjusted mine last week, the solenoid had jammed open, the boot will not close, remove the boot cover enough to get the solenoid out, remove the 4bolts holding the lock unit in, remove the complete unit ,clean the unit then, make sure when you push the catch over it catches on the wee notches , when after further cleaning It does, the job after testing the release button, should be finished.Refit in the opposite order.
