3200GTA Sport/gear change

Couple of times in sport mode, reluctant to change up - last time red lined it followed by a loud clunk when it eventually made the change.
Anyone on here point me in the right direction?
Thank you very big!

Crossed my mind Catman, as I don't really know (will get it & the filter changed anyway). Changed to sport in 3rd gear & gave it the boot, the upchange seemed to take forever (bearing in mind in sport) & then an almighty clunk either transmission or differential? Car behaves normally in normal mode & the valve clearance adjustments have made a world of a difference in the smooth application of the power.

I think that'd be the first place to start. I had something similar when I was at Bruntingthorpe last year. It cleared itself after cooling down a bit. Is it constant, or was it a one off?

It was a one-off (so far) the chances to use sport mode are few & far between. Like I say, it behaves perfectly in normal mode.

That sounds sort of like what happened to our AC, but it might not be the same. Trying to accelerate the revs were restricted at certain levels and we could not achieve anything like full performance. We had a failed knock sensor, so we changed them both and hey presto, full bore fun was back with a vengeance, it was that simple..!! Can't say it's the same as your issue, but keep it in mind..!!

Mine 3200GT A happened the same once. It didnt up shift. The RPM was about 4K, then i ease on the throttle, expecting it to upshift, but nothing happened. The rev didnt came down at once. It took the gear box a few seconds to upshift.

Other than that, everything is fine. I have ordered gasket and filter, pending fluid change.

Knock sensors will limit the engine if a sudden demand is required for power, I don't think the result is a bad in normal as it is in sport, but the issue remains, just worth a thought if you find nothing else..??

Thanks Catman, Hodroyd & timkee330ci
Will start at the fluid & see what happens, sport is not an option all the time, Thai road deaths are horrendous without my contribution.

I have also had odd occasions where the gearbox just locked up and would not change straight away. I have never tracked it down so would be interested in hearing your conclusion. I would agree that new filter and gearbox oil and careful setting of the fluid level is important. i had my oil and filter changed by a garage last year and i might check it my self.

Davy that is very similar to my problem, but only happened in sport (touch wood). Due back in the garage in next couple of weeks to change engine oil & spark plugs (one with intermittent fault & going to give the Denso iridiums a go). Appreciate the comments & also understand the importance of posting the conclusion.

Well had the work done, but at short notice so no time for the garage to buy in the transmission filter (laying the car up again for about 6 months). Mixed drive of 200km & no recurring transmission hiccups. Can only assume that fresh & correct level fluid was the answer. Cannot get used to the difference in the smoothness & power of the car since the valve clearances were set. Anybody that gets used to an off key engine will be blown away if they get this done.
