So

Few weeks ago was full of a cold and not quite with it, went over a bridge and van at side of road caught me on camera of which Im sure I was doing somewhere over 30 but come through today and said I hit 46.....

Thoughts, points, court, bad....

Not had points since I was 25 and Im now nearly 44.

If there was more than 14 days between the offence and the date on the letter, then the Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) it contains is no longer valid.

Ouch. But I once got caught doing 33 in a 30 zone in Wales.

3 points or a speed awareness course. Had to travel all the way back to Wales as well for the course.

2 years later they sent me a letter saying the camera was incorrectly configured - I guess someone complained and it had probably not been serviced within the time limits.

Nottinghamshire speed awareness courses apply for 10% + 9mph which would be 42 in a 30 not sure if different counties different but I would guess you are up for points and a fine.

Taken from one of the many speed guideline website:-

"Generally speaking, the higher the speed, the greater the risk of an instant ban and as a general rule of thumb, when the speeding offence is in excess of 45% of the speed limit, there is a risk of an instant driving ban"

Although the table on the same site is slightly different as it suggests in 30 mph limit In excess of 51 mph is likely to incur a ban

Im owning up to it, interesting that the camera wasn't head on it was pointing ahead but capturing traffic in two lanes.. fingers crossed 3 points and a fine.

Before doing so read all the documents carefully. A good friend of mine has got off several penalty notices from the Congestion Charging because their database has miss-spelt the street's name (he been caught by the same camera several times). He just returns their demand with "no such address in London" written across it and it works each time.

Read everything they've sent you very carefully, there are often errors like this.

I wouldn't own up that quickly! No need to.

Ask for photo and confirmation that the camera was configured and serviced correctly.

No harm in asking and it could help you.
