770bhp Audi...

I decided to leave the QP at home for Classic Le Mans, (looking back - daft thing to do!) And piled in as a passenger in my friends RS6 Avant, the dyno plot shows just shy of 770bhp, my goodness that thing is a missile! I thought the QP could muster up some pace but this thing is obscene!
The plan was to divert via germany to VMax the thing, but we didnt get the opportunity to fully explore what it could do, but Looking at the videos, 3 up with all our camping gear we managed to hit 60 in around 4 seconds, 100 in less than 8 and 150 in 13~14 seconds, great fun in dispensing with a GT4 and medium sized sports bike! It just doesnt seem sensible for a family estate to be chewing road up as readily as it does!
Downsides? The big turbo V10 just doesn't sound as special as a high revving V8 and scarily the Audi has more of a thirst than the Masser!!!

So fast..........but boring. I don’t get the objective of just going faster on public roads but with no long term enjoyment/excitement once the initial wow factor has worn off.

It's not all speed/acceleration for me, my QP for me does almost everything really well, and probably not anything top of the pile, but it ticks all my boxes...

I could drive it off Beachy Head and I'm sure my 0-60 would be fantastic....

I love the Avant. Proper street sleeper. I'd have one if I didn't have the disco but you cant get an engine in the back of an Avant and you can a disco.

I never understand the boring comments. It isn't a sports car. It is an estate car. It can carry a family, their luggage and the dog.

BUT

It can also out-gun most things on the road. Getting you to your destination in warp speed, in total comfort.

What's not to like?

I actually really like them and if I needed a family car I'm sure I'd be sniffing round the classified for something Audi RS-ish. The challenge would be, I'd probably lose my license quite quickly. I love a car that is theatrical and can play wonderful orchestral noises even at low speed. A car which is at its most fun when it's tearing up the tarmac would 'force' me to get my kicks the wrong side of the speed limit and that wouldn't end well.

The guy that owns it has a number of 911's t satisfy the whole sports car side of things, the audi is useful for the kids & dogs... I can see the 'boring' side of things, it is an amazingly easy car to drive, but without fail when provoked the car just makes everyone that's in it just laugh! I think because it is just a family wagon the way it goes, stops and corners bends your mind!

I looked at RS4 & RS6 and much preferred the E55K....much more charismatic than the Audi IMHO. Of course it is not Italian but pretty good for a German.

But then it's a family car, with family car looks, sports car performance and running costs (or more) - without the enjoyment of the sports car.
Or tune it like the one here, and have mental licence loosing performance, and still not the same enjoyment factor.

It's a bit like sandals and socks - both have their place, and both are great in the right situation, but together, they somehow don't make as much sense.

Realistically, you'd make as much progress in getting to your destination in a S Audi (rather than the RS) with more cash left in your pocket.
Heck, you'd likely make as much progress in a Focus ST Wagon, or Octavia VRS, but I appreciate they probably don't do the comfort thing as well.

I guess the guy with the Elise isn't the target market for something like this though - 140hp, 750kg and an engine mounted right behind your back and a twisty road - what's not to like ;)

Went road Bedford Autodrome in a lovely Exige with Nitron coilover upgrade, supercharger whirring away and a pretty decent driver. Flipping heck those things are quick. He was eating up Caterhams.

Great car as German stuff goes, but still dull as ditch water!
