AA Assistance required

Had to call the AA out this morning, bit of a rubbish reason but I didn't have the time to investigate myself. The boot lid would not lock, turns out, after some investigation that the closing solenoid is defective. Had a look at the Eurospares website but the item is not mentioned, after a chat with aforementioned company, they can't find it either and are getting back to me. So, while I wait their call, does anyone know what the part number is, where I can get a new one.?? The offending item fits in the boot lid.
Secondly, whilst the AA man was doing his bit, I asked if we could check the alternator as well, turns out that is on its way out too. Brand new battery fitted last month, however the Amps is very low, currently at 16 Amps with full load, should be around 60-70 Amps. So, Eurospares offered me a replacement off a car, no guarantee, no warranty, for £159.....it is probably off an Old 3200 so will be at least 17 years old. Anyone know a good site for reconditioned alternators. All help much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Theres a company in Aberdeen who do nice job of refurbishing alternators, but that's probably not that handy for you :)

Thanks for the replies peeps, it is definitely the Alternator as it is only outpiutting 16Amps when it shluld be around 60. Hopefully will be getting the car into the garage to get it sorted this week.

Had the same problem with the boot lid not closing recently on my 05 4200. After removing the lid trim I could see the solenoid was not working as it should. To save any more hassle I decided to detach the solenoid from the lock mechanism and now use the key to open the boot. Without the solenoid attached the boot now closes better than ever so don't think I will replace the offending item.

Just spoken with London and Essex Autoelectric...
They say for £180 +VAT, they will completely refurb the alternator for my 4200, incl new bearings. They upgrade the diodes that are prone to reversing the current as they go bad. In all, I should have a better than new unit when they've finished...
Maserati wanted £850 for a new one, bless them !

Grtzzz...!
