AC Probs

Hottest day of the year and my AC thinks its having the day off to , driving along all is well than suddenly no AC and E appears on the dash, so I tuned the car off and back on and all is well again , a little further up the road and AC stops working again, arhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Tried the reset and all's well again ,than guess what ..........it stops again .This all resulted in me using the alternative method of cooling, windows down and increase speed . The centre screen appears as normal when all this happens and when working its nice and ice cold , so does anyone have any ideas of what might be the fault?

First thing I would try is to have the system re-filled. Symptoms you describe could be caused by just enough / just not enough fluid in your ac system

If its ice cold its not the refrigerant level that's the issue, if it was low th liquid level in the evaportatore drops off and the air off temp rises. Air off the vents should typically be 3.5-6 depending on exterior ambient. More than 14 and its looking short of charge...
