After dinner pop quiz friends.

The car you've been looking to buy comes into view, after many months of searching. Perfect in every way except one - its not the colour you wanted. You don't hate it..but you don't love it. Problem is, nothing else has come close and there's not many of these things around...

What do you do?

A. Man up, compromise and get driving?

B. Maintain icy calm, steely resolve and walk places.

Go with the heart - assuming it is a Maserati :) View it, drive it and see what you think then... I guess I just got lucky though!

It's totally a heart decision. There is no logical reason to buy a Maserati.

Your accountant could probably choose a good car to pound up and down the motorways. It wouldn't matter what colour that machine comes in because it would be meeting all the other criteria: tax, servicing, consumption, resale value. The colour would be immaterial. In those circumstances I could live with any colour.

But your Maserati is a special purchase.

You have to ask yourself: would the colour be nagging you every time you walk up to the car?

It's a Maserati. It's going to thrill you, excite you, make you smile each time you take it out of the garage, however it's also going to be expensive to run, expensive to maintain and the inevitable niggles will take some forgiveness.

Buy the car that you won't end up hating because you can't justify the costs, nor forgive the foibles.

Only if said colour is Yellow or Orange!!! :D

But then again it is a Maserati and let's face it, it will be great fun whatever the colour. Real Headturner.

Don't compromise, it you do you will always have those words - if only - floating in your head.

Hang in there they are worth the wait

Depends how likely it is that a car in the right colour will appear. If its a very rare car like a rhd Shamal or Ghibli Cup (for example), colour can't be a big factor. But if it's a more "common" model such as QP, i'd recommend waiting.

If you car about the colour so much that:
- you are deliberating about it for quite a while;
- you ask other people you know whether you should buy a car that you aren't sure about the colour;
- you ask other people on an internet forum whether you should buy a car that you aren't sure about the colour,
and, you are still unsure...

well then I fear what will happen if you buy it.

My guess, is that you will still care about the colour, so it will always niggle you that you have a car you love but not in the right colour.

The first QP V I bought was the wrong colour - inside and out! Annoyed me for 2 years. Much happier with current QP therefore, in black exterior and cream interior and black piano dash.
