Iirc the hyrdolock was caused by a water level much lower than shown in that photo. The underpass continued to flood afterwards. There was a burst water main in Harlow recently and that image came to mind. I turned back!

Someone mention hydrolocking an engine? It happened to mine by the previous owner, cost 16k for the new engine to be fitted.

It definitely happens..so not just an urban myth !
The airbox is super vulnerable down there on the 4200. And not particularly
easy to service there either . Didnt we just witness a thread in which a pic was posted of a MD serviced car that was sporting a 20 yr old filter or some sh1t ?
Added to which, I'll wager there's f'all RAM air going on either, not with the bell mouth design and associated valance aerodynamics...?
Hah...just persuading myself of the need to come up with a fix..! ;)

I know it happens, and it is a disaster. But with all the traffic on here, I just can't remember anyone posting that it happened to them since I joined.

People probably *are* being more careful (god knows I was when I had a 4200) but that's a part of driving a car. Now I'm far more careful parking than I used to be (although hitting a kerb is not likely to make my engine grenade ;) )

Simple solution is a straight silicone pipe off the MAF through the inner wing, rip the air box out an strap a big K&N onto the back of the headlight bracket, that is what I did on the 4200 and it sounded awesome!!! liberated some horses too no doubt. I'm working on a more sophisticated solution for the GS but may do this again in the interim :D

Simple case of the majority of owners in the last 7 years or so being more weekend and sunny day drivers, rather than daily drivers.

Data to demonstrate that? Not (trying) to be funny, but that's almost wholly a perceptual comment :)

It's what happens with any specialist type of car as they get older.
Good example is my Stag.
When I bought it back in 86, it was still only 12 years old, and many where daily drivers, including myself.
By the 90's, the youngest 20 years, most of those in the owners club had them as 'toys', second cars, as back then before the internet we met up every month at the local pub!
Come on, there isn't many 32/42/GS being used as a first car these days, in all weather's, yes for GT's being newer, but not 32/42/GS.

Mine doesn’t, would never take it to work, people keep saying, when will we see it, never at work, if the plant goes to vent, paintwork is fooked and covered in shite...I know what Mike says, even tho I try to get mine out often, life gets in the way....
