With the lack of progress at Maserati and FCA's focus on Alfa. Maybe, it will be the Alfieri based on the 6c platform.

Looks like an updated 4200...

So we have an 8C, 4C and now a 6C. Will a Fiat Panda twin air give its engine to the fabled 2C, that I've just thought of...

Resurrecting an old thread based on new rumours.

There have a been a few rumours flying around this week based on 'confirmation' from Pogea Racing GmbH that the 6C will appear in 2020. This is incidentally the last date that has been given for the Alfieri to appear. Chatting with someone who's just picked up a new GranCab they were told that production of the GT/GC will stop for good in the next few months. This would leave most of the Modena factory doing nothing unless they want to up production of the Alfa 4C.

The speculation then is that the former GT/GC lines will be re-tooled to build the Alfieri and 6C. That the two will share the Giorgio platform and a much more. The Alfieri will make use of the Maserati engine range and the 6C the Alfa engine range. Underneath they will essentially be the same car but with different finishes based on the badge. The Alfa would be more basic and marketed a sports car, the Alfieri will be a little softer and marketed as a luxury GT. To give the Alfieri something different they could throw in some hybridisation, full electric, or fuel cell options.

If the 6C and Alfieri are so similar what would people buy?

As far as i know this isnt planned in current line up - there have been rumors of 2020 as MrMick said, but ive seen nothing to back that up.

Well its a tentative yes from me. Would depend upon which is better as to which way I would go. Electric (rumoured) would be a no go for me but if the Alfa has the QV engine and the Alfieri the Ghibli S lump then the styling on the Alfieri would have to be monumentally better for me to take it over the proven Alfa.

Personally I see them running the same engine...why wouldn't they?

Personally I feel they would have to be different under the skin, Alfieri Electric and faster (more expensive by £20k) and the Alfa running the QV engine....so it would be the Alfa for me.

Given the timescales I'm expecting a range of power plants for the Alfieri and not all of them at launch. Something like; existing V6, existing V6 + electric as a hybrid, fuil electric.

There is the possibility of the Alfa V6, or a completely new unit. If the latter then it could be used to give a lift to the other cars in the range as part of a facelift.

It would be lunacy to have two sister cars with different V6s.. the cost of developing 2 vs 1.

Could be something like the Alfa gets the petrol and the Maser gets a mild hybrid petrol (cam driven type)

I'm not sure its that bad. The drive will be the same from the gearbox back. Its just a case of having to fit the existing Maserati engine and ancillaries into the engine bay instead of the Alfa ones. Mild hybrid would be good. Or electric motors on the front wheels to replace the existing Q4 system and give a plugin hybrid capability.

Yawn.

I now can't get excited or even interested in any Maserati related news. Which is a crying shame given how much I (and lots of you) love the brand and it's history. Same old story, the need a marketing rocket up their corporate behinds before they force us all to leave. My car is a 2011 model and there is literally nowhere to go with Maserati and doesn't look there will be for a couple of years at least. And then I'd want someone else to swallow the first year of depreciation.

I see a Ferrari on my horizon.

+1 (second time today...you must be coming round to my way of thinking!)

Let's see what happens, something will clearly arrive at some stage and I was told last year that Alfieri will be all electric.

I don't believe that the GT/GC will stop until soon before the new cars enter production so that could be two more years of the big cars.

I still find it strange that the press think the 8C was an Alfa rather than the cut down GranTurismo that it really was.

There will be a new F Type about the time these beauties come out so I hope they aim higher than the old one, nice as it is the Jag is heavy and has a tiny boot.

It’s like a Unicorn but even harder to spot. I think one saw one once but it was probably a mirage.

Hehehehehe....made me titter....

Well if it's correct it's a step in the right direction. Add a complete overal of the 4c dynamics as well then some decent prospects for the future of Alfa and Maserati.

And if it looks like this one that's still being used by the press they are on a winner....
