Crazy isn't it , used is definitely the way to go , a guy at work spends that kind of money on speakers , he's lending me some cables to try out to see if I notice any difference , he's not told me what they are so if they make a difference I'm hoping they're not expensive

I'm playing amplifier switcheroo at the moment

trying to make my mind up between the sonab and a Marantz PM7200 which is 25w class A whatever that means, and a lot more watts not class A

Good amp, that. Especially if you have the KI signature.

Decision made marantz is staying , audioengine B1 does what it says on the box, delivers high quality sound via Bluetooth but there's a noticeable difference between Spotify extreme and tidal lossless, so much so that I'll be cancelling Spotify

Careful with the expectation bias, we are all susceptible to it when expecting better things. Whilst there is a case for a well made, secure fitting cable the reality is no company has ever been able to provide any objective evidence to support the argument that expensive cables sound any different from their much cheaper cousins. A great example is the Chord advert from some years ago. When pushed to prove it, they couldn't and had to remove the advert as it was deemed misleading. See here https://www.asa.org.uk/rulings/the-chord-company-ltd-a14-274211.html Any possible sound quality difference in the digital world is even more ridiculous than in the analogue one. The idea of digital sound or vison being altered by a cable is technically impossible, the signal is transferred in ones and zeros and either arrives or it doesn't, there is no grey area. Anyone moderately literate with the way data is transferred will attest to the same. Good luck in your listening test and let us know how you get on!

Not *quite* true. This is why we have error correction....

Turned out the cables were enthusiast manufactured many years ago but I couldn't tell any difference so I'll just buy some banana plugs for the cables I have

Probably not without listening to them. At least I wouldn't For that kind of money you've opened up a whole world of options.

I've got Sonos but if I want to listen to the music I'm a headphones man. I did see one of these in a shop in London a few months ago and it sounded very good but impossible to tell just how good in that environment. It's quite mesmerising seeing it move to the music.

:rofl5: I bought 1 "Audiophile" CAT 5 cable to see if it made a sh!ts worth of difference. That's the new snake oil....
How did they market that?! I was almost sold directional speaker wire. Something about the metal crystal alignment making them behave like a diode... Then I pointed out that the music signal was AC....

So a diode would have even *more* impact then.......

Cyrus also send their own CAT5 in the Streamer box. With instructions as to the direction, and a choke to be used at the Streamer end.......

I am a big fan of tubes as you may have realised by my amplifier choice, choose well and you should love the sound.

Mrs wack dislikes the many box system so I'm thinking integrated tube amp and the audioengine B1 streaming tidal, I've read these spendor speakers are particularly well suited to a tube amp

I'd go to £1000 for the amp but that's as far as my budget runs

I've read about a chinese guy in kent who appears to be an **** to deal with, IT skills similar to mine, his website is like the lings cars of hifi but the product gets good reviews

I'm not interested in badges, if it looks good and sounds good that's enough for me , big name British is out of the running due to cost, even used.

My word that is horrid, but the products look rather spiffing

C

We're you twirling your handlebar moustache with one foot resting on the tyre of your spitfire when you typed that :D

Difficult to deal with doesn't look like an exaggeration, no answer on either number and no option to purchase on the website
