The issue is that the air filter housing is situated down low on the front nearside, in front of the wheel. If the car is driven through standing water and the filter opening is submerged, the 'slug' of water that is hoovered up is very likely to 'hydro-lock' the engine and turn it into an expensive coffee table.

My wife did this to our bmw 520d, 7k at the dealer for a new short engine including fitting. I dread to think what a 4.2 V8 would cost.

'Luckily' insurance paid out as flood damage.

Good reminder though, thank you

Serious amount of it about in norn iron last few days..... Almost (but not quite) resorted to all weather mode on the Giuli.... No harm in seeing the traction control light now and again.......

A mate did £14,000 worth of damage to an almost new Porsche Panamera on a late run home from a night out with his wife. 6 inches of standing water at the verge in the middle of nowhere on an unlit road, and recovered at 4am.

Not sure his wife has spoken to him since....................................:frusty5:
