Different car completely but I have had our old daily S320 (via @dem maser , cheers) for a month now and love its drive, smooth and dead quiet. Quality cars all round. Probably our 10th or Merc but the 1st S class and I have to say they are in a different league.

Picking up the Grancabrio from its storage depot tomorrow for a weekend of catching up and watching Pete Gabriel in Birmingham. If the weather keeps up, the roof will be down all weekend!

Had several Mercs, but the only "estate" I had was a 1990 300TE...which I bought with 100k mi; sold at 300k to a friend for his kid's first car; and it's still running at 500k...for whatever that's worth.

Love the car, Dean; congrats on finding it!

That's when Mercs were built for 500k. Sadly no more. They now know how to reduce cost/quality so the last long enough for warranty and reputation but not that long. I had one of those 300TE estates but made the mistake of going for the 24v model. What can be wrong with an extra 50bhp I thought. In a Merc, lots. The extra horses were stolen from low and mid range so the car needed to use all 7000 rpm to get a move on and the final drive was lowered to compensate. The Sportline suspension spoiled the magic carpet ride. Not what you really want from that sort of car.

Had one. It's what put me off the brand, likely forever (as per @Guy 's post)...unless I could find a 500E unicorn with the Porsche powerplant.

Apparently spoke this into existence...ugh.
