Bad car!

I knew the 3200 would try to kill me sooner or later - these cars are known for their homicidal streak. So I wasn't surprised, after 2 weeks of ownership, when it had a go. But I was taken unawares by its sneaky method. I was expecting some trauma involving a heavy right foot and a greasy road. Instead, it just popped up the ERROR message and the airbag light, which of course I ignored. After a while I realised that the indicators weren't working, and then to my horror, nor were the rear lights. Fortunately it was a short journey with little traffic, and I arrived home safely. Fuse 16 was the culprit, in the passenger footwell, under the agricultural piece of tin that's only got one screw holding it, because many others have been here before.
Score so far: Maser 0, Me 1. Let's hope it stays that way:unsure:.

Unfortunately I had fuse 16 go, fixed it, only for it to go again on a regular basis. Can I suggest in short term you stock up on a few extra fuses so you dont get caught out. After a lot of good suggestions on the forum the right one came from Holland. The culprit is in the vertical accelerometer under the near side headlight where a small brass block becomes unstuck from the flexible strip and shorts the connections and causes the fuse to blow. Why anything linked to suspension can take our rear lights and airbags is beyond me. Anyway I did a technical how to fix it on this forum - I think thread titled "fuse 16".

yes its a pretty common one, and there is the accelerometer issue, and also one of the other fuses affects fuse 16, so you need to check none of the other fuses are loose. If you read the list of stuff covered by each fuse (and resist the urge to giggle and/or rant about the madness of the groupings) you will find the same things on some of the other fuses that fuse 16 deals with, check the other numbers. I didn't get this to settle down until i replaced all the fuses. I also carry a box of fuses at all times. don't bother putting the one screw holding the panel over fuse plate back you will need to open that up again soon :)

Thanks for the info re. the accelerometer. It did happen immediately after a vigorous burst of acceleration. So it was a heavy right foot what done it after all:rolleyes:.
