Battery Change - Reset Procedure?

Hi all,

Another question! Hope someone can help:

Have just changed the battery on my new Gransport as the old one was very tired - bought Bosch one as recommend on here - but just wondered if there is a reset procedure to go through when reconnecting? On my Alfa it is quite a convoluted process with ignition on for 2 mins, then off for 1 min, back on, start, idle for 15 mins without touching accelerator etc etc.

Have checked the manual and it doesn't mention anything but just thought I would check?

Also I was going to use a CTEK trickle charger which comes with a handy connector that you can wire into the electrical system. I was going to connect to the battery directly via the normal terminals but has anyone connected a different/better way? The positive lead has 3 possible connection points/leads - is anyone better than another?

Thanks for any advice!

My ctek charger connects to the top of the battery and I poked the connector plug through the battery compartment door, so that I just need to plug in and out.

Usually when changing the battery u have to reset the radio and alarm. For alarm which is easy its just a matter of using ur remote to lock and unlock the car. I do it two times to make sure. For the radio thats easy to but u need ur radio code to reset it

Changed mine last year a straight swap even the radio kept its code, possibly the longer the battery is off the more chance there is of loosing codes.

Thanks for the replies. It was mostly engine reset I was considering but you have reminded me about alarm etc.

Do you need to follow a set sequence to reset the ECU? Thinking about it would you need to do this every time you used the battery isolator or does it maintain a small charge to retain codes etc?

After a reset, Shiltech advised me to turn ignition on but not start the car for 30s. You can hear loads of things happening during that period, then it all goes quiet.

Its only the Gransport that has to have the radio code for reset. Us guys with the standard coupe dont have to worry about that..........Nothing else has to be reset excpt for the alarm as i had stated. Clicking the remote to lock and unlock a couple times does it......Turning the key to on position for 30 seconds or so isnt a bad idea but i dont know how nessassery it is. But i do it

As a battery charger try Save-a-Battery. Its an American product made by Granite Digital which is available over here and plugs into the cigarette lighter or the power take-off in the boot. I have them on all my cars and after five years have not had a failure to start.

This is what I have to use with mine. Cut a small hole in boot panels and bob is your mothers brother http://www.ctek.com/int/en/chargers/Comfort%20Indicator%20Panel%20M8%201%2c5m

Just choose one thats a snug fit around the eyelet. No electrical difference between them whatsoever
