Found 2 broken wires and another is badly frayed. The rubber sleeve is difficult to pull back to access the wires so I may have to cut it as I have not been able to find the other 2 cut wires ends.

Blue and white is the boot release. 12v applied will fire it.

That sleeve is only pushed in at top and bottom. Threading a new cable may be difficult, though and you want to make sure it's well sealed as otherwise your boot *will* get wet.

At least you found the problem, now to fix it..!! You could try threading threough say 5 or 6 wires different colours with plenty of slack, then reseal the hose ends. Then pick up each wire and connect to existing at each end with a crimp terminal..??

I crimped the 2 broken wires in the picture.

Not only is the boot release working now the boot light works aswell(stopped a while ago) and the boot open light comes up on the dash now! Result.

Crimping the wires involved cutting the rubber sleeve a few times which I now need to glue back together and I will wrap it in tape.

That was why I suggested putting in extra cable through the cable hose, you could crimp at each end and would not have to cut the hose..??
