Boot lock disappeared into boot lid

Hi all,

Still getting to know the car. Today I was thinking that since the battery is in the boot and I've been opening that using the key remotely or using the button in the glovebox, I really should have a contingency plan in case of an electrical problem.

So I put the key into the lock, just to try it and the whole lock barrel seems to have disappeared into the bootlid....

Before I start tearing out boot lid trim (held on by about 3 million trim clips....), has anyone had this happen? Is it as simple as just removing the trim inside the boot lid to get to the lock barrel and start working out why it has failed and how to reattach/replace?

All thoughts are welcome!

Not had it happen but it’s going to need a strip out to see what’s happening in there!

I would start by looking at an exploded parts diagram on Eurospares and see if that helps you understand how it all works.

Is the catch still working via the remote ?

Speaking as a 4200 owner and changing the Maserati badge I had to remove the trim in the boot. With this cheap kit with spare plastic studs and removal tools it made the job simple.
Got it off eBay for something like £10.

Luckily still working perfectly! I don't want to have to rely on it, however.
This is what they called the set.

Thank you. It's probably worthwhile having something like this anyway

Here is a picture of how it is. I notice a screw is missing from the hole on the left - it seems to me likely that this is supposed to hold the bracket that holds the lock in place. Can anyone confirm?

If so, I can probably line it back up and put a screw in to secure it without actually dismantling the whole lid

It was Chris and there's some plastic studs(which I didn't need as the tool removed the existing ones no trouble) that looked very similar to the proper Maserati ones.

Yeah, I bought a plastic set years back. but then bought the fastners separately. So I have a lifetime's supply....

Not exactly but I do think the missing screw is only used to attach the trim shield - and badly IIRC. ( it's screwed down in 3 places- overkill but hey)
Here's a pic of the plastic trim...removed.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for this. It does answer my question. Just seemed a coincidence that that screw was missing and the lock was loose just beside it.

When I next see the car in the light (sometime in March) I'll have to get that boot interior trim dismantled and work out what's going on. I'm just terrified of an electrical fault meaning that I can't open it at all!
