Hi all, Im looking at the possibility of getting my 3200 transported down to bill mcgraths for its next major service from Scotland/North England and I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for car transport companies? have done a google search and found some potentially good outfits - what should I look for in a car transport company?

It would be a lot cheaper and easier to drive down to Autoshield (Manchester) and catch the train back from Manch centre. As for car transporters, I wouldn't know as I've never used one. Always struck me as a very expensive way of doing something you could do yourself quite easily. Just a thought.

B McG are, as far as I aware, a great Indy. I was just thinking of the reduced fuel costs if you are driving down and ease of getting back up. That would remove the need and cost of getting a transportation company to move your car. FWIW, I get mine done at Autoshield and they do a great job and I am sure other guys who use Bill McG will say the same.

I've had to get a car transported in the past over a similar distance. I hired an enclosed transporter and it roughly worked out at £2 per mile to give you an idea.

I'd think as with most things prices will vary if you phone around but I can only speak of my experience.

I too use Bill McGrath for my 3200 and understand your predicament.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Bill McGrath are very good, highly recommend, however for just a service wouldn't be cheaper to take it to a more local maserati dealer ?

Its going to cost you nearly the same in transport costs as getting it serviced..........the indie in Scotland seems to get good reviews and In Manchester and Midlands too

If you do use a transporter make sure the company is aware that a 3200 has a relatively long and low nose as some beavertails/ramps have rather steep load angles and you risk scuffing the car.

Thanks for the responses, Its a major service - belts, chains and a couple other items Im looking to sort, my plan as I had done previously with the last cambelt service is to have it coincide with meetings I have in London, last time I drove down and back, it may well be more expensive to trailer down. Annual/minor servicing I can do myself but prefer B McG for major work as they have looked after the car very well before and during my ownership and like the way they operate and keep me informed of everything and of course the quality of work. In saying all that there are other good indys around eg autoshield etc.

I've nothing but praise for Bill McGraths and have known them since the early '90s. I can see why you would want to keep your car in their care even if it gives you a logistical puzzle.

Another option might be to see if a forum member would drive it for you.

Coincidently I received HR Owen's magazine this morning and there is a big puff piece about their preferred transport company http://www.virginiawatermotorco.co.uk

I bet they aren't cheap!

Car Rental companies must use lots of drivers to move cars around from location to location at times.......one way drive and a train fare back?
