We had a worrying tapping/scratching kind of sound once in our horse box

Turned out to be a rat, stuck in the lining

Wonder if it's that?

Doubt it. Far too classy for rats. Perhaps a little gerbil or some such. Personally I don't like the interior, much too black with no contrast. And it's a manual. Apart from that, it's a cheap car.

If you were a dealer why would you not fix it rather than sell it cheap? unless you know it's something very serious or expensive.

Set an attractive asking price and hope to get rid before anyone, like yourself Andy, starts asking questions.

Are you suggesting I'm not classy?

We do name them, you know. 'rat 1', 'rat 2', '...3',.....and all the way up to over 500 something

I assume it's just a question of economics. DL Cardiff are a good outfit with a good reputation, so I suspect they have made an initial investigation and advised accordingly, however they won't carry out the work if they're not going to get paid for it. I suspect this is fixable, but is an engine out job. Not really a difficult thing, but heavy on labour, so £1K minimum plus parts.

So if the seller doesn't have £1K+ to throw it, then sell it and leave the fix to someone that does.

A quick conversation with DL, a bit of negotiation armed with the right information, and it could be a reasonable way into Maserati ownership, as it looks well looked after otherwise.

Its a bargain that needs looking into.....they can fall into hands where people dont have money to throw and they have to be sold....

Not at all TMH, your class improved immensely when you came over to the light side. However, while you have a simple system of rodent nomenclature, it could prove to be a bit confusing if you see them altogether.

Not worth it, plenty out there with no issues for a few k more...in fact mine was not that much more.

Given that it has a fault so bad you have to decribe it in the advert I would only think it is worth the sum of its parts...with a new motor @ 3-4k and having a DIY gearbox...Sad, but I think its a breaker.

All depends if there is something wrong I suppose...Doesn't sound like the chap knows one way or the other...But yes if it's a problem you could get a sorted one for not much more.
