Drive the length of the UK in less than 9 hours

In an Audi S5 with a big fuel tank and some boys in blue avoiding devices

Average speed somewhere around 90, which apparently means he must have hit 140/150 at one point due to the sort of roads required.

Part of me thinks he's just an idiot, and the risks taken on those 9 hours / 800+ miles make it all pointless.

Another part of me thinks it's all completely pointless and that if there was an officially sanctioned run, it'd wipe his 'record' of the charts anyway.

Either way, he clearly wanted to be recognised for it, making a video and posting it online. Not a good advertisement for car enthusiasts imo.

Thoughts?

Fair play. Someone will always attempt it. To be fair it's slow compared to the Trans US record.

I'd leave that record to the chavs in their souped up Subarus. With Smart Motorways, nimbys, other technology it won't be long before someone is caught/has an accident attempting similar and the Torygraph will have their field day.

In general I think it would have been more heroic and interesting in the 1920s, but now it's just an exercise in planning (good and careful planning, no doubt) and a lot of luck in not getting caught. I'll be interested to see if the police decide to find an ANPR check from one place and compare it with a time-stamped one from another and prosecute anyway.

If the Police don’t find a way to prosecute they will be opening the flood gates for others to have a go.

Surely the videos and his own statements would be enough to take his license or even lock him up for a bit.

Think how fast the tool could have done it if his 6 years of planning had not taken him via Liverpool.

We did it a few years ago in the SZ although not sure our time would challenge any records not with a prerequisite from the co-driver that each meal break had to be at a Michelin star or similar restaurant but I think we did dip under the 100 hours ;)
