Influenced so many guitarist and was the guitarist that made me pick up a guitar. So sad that he has passed away from throat cancer.......His sound and how he played was like no other and for one will miss his music......A true innovator in his field.

Agreed!!such a distinctive style!
Another one gone!
Trouble is there isnt anyone to replace these rockstars once they're gone.
Well no one decent anyway!

Sadly rock like the old days has been dead for a while and is mostly niche, everything seems to be pop or hip hop these days.

Back in I believe 1979 I put this on my record player and it just blew me away back then......Eruption just made rock fans sit up and listen back then......Such a brilliant debut LP.

I saw Van Halen in 1995 at Wembley stadium, and aside from "Jump" and "Why can't this be love?" I didn't know much of their stuff. Suffice to say following that performance, I immediately set about putting that right.

Such a distinctive sound, nothing/no one else like him.

A sad day indeed. RIP

Bill Murray saw him on the golf course. He was a zombie.
I'm confused. Bill Murray saw Eddie Van Halen on a golf course? Who was the zombie Bill Murray or Eddie Van Halen?
How do you know this titbit of gossip? Or is this a line from a film that you're quoting, and its gone right over my head?

He made the Jump. (apologies fan)

Sad to read. We're not getting any younger and he lived life to the full.

Its a misquote from the film Zombie land.

Bill Murray : I just saw Eddie Van Halen.

Wichita : Nuh-uh.

Tallahassee : Really?

Bill Murray : Yeah.

Wichita : Wow.

Tallahassee : Where?

Bill Murray : The Hollywood Bowl.

Tallahassee : And how was he?

Bill Murray : He's a zombie.

Wichita : Aw. Tough break.

I was also lucky enough to see them in them three times.....Twice with Dave Lee Roth at Mosters of Rock and in Cardiff when they were special guests for Bon Jovi and once with Sammy Hagar on vocals.......but Van Halen for me will always be Eddie and Dave......Much prefer the early stuff compared to the Sammy era. Best LP for me was Woman and Chldren first.....
