F360 Sticky button refurb & vent upgrades

Thought I’d start a separate thread on these fixes for my 360 Modena.
You may have read my older thread on the major engine refurb, gearbox refurb etc that AV engineering carried out. Link for anyone interested:

Following on from the above I thought it was time to turn my attention to the interior. It’s black leather and is actually in pretty decent condition for the mileage. I’ve always treated it regularly with Gliptone cleaner and conditioner. However, the usual Italian issue of sticky buttons obviously raised it’s ugly head eventually.
I asked Aldous if he could remove all the offending items and send them off to Roland @ stickyplastics. This was some time ago when Roland first set up shop. I agreed a flat rate with him for the entire sticky interior and he went to work. Here’s a pic of the sad state of affairs:

Roland did a fantastic job, here are the finished results:

and some pics following installation and a thorough Gliptone clean by myself, to give you an idea of the interior condition after near enough 118,000 miles:

Then, having collected the car from a service last year, I noticed the front of dash window vents had become extremely sticky all of a sudden (these were not part of the Roland job) and the plastic was bending out of shape upwards. Additionally, the dash side vents were dropping into the dashboard, exposing the leather edges.
Here are some pics of the sticky front vents and one of the side vents:

What to do now?!
Its a complete dashboard out to get to those front window vents as it turns out so I wanted to make sure it was a one time fix.
After a trawl through 100s of pages on Ferrarichat, the US based website, I came across a chap in Australia who had manufactured the front vents in aluminium which clearly would solve the issue once and for all! The vents arrived last week and here they are:

They should look like this when fitted:

This then left just the issue of the dropped dashboard side vents.
I discussed this with vamped trimming but the general consensus was they would eventually just drop back in. Hmmm…
After much searching I finally came across a guy in Canada who appeared to have solved this issue by manufacturing reproduction side vents but with a small edge thus preventing the vent dropping in… result.
Here they are, pics are from his car but mine should arrive next week:

Looks like AV have got their work cut out when the car goes in for its cam belt service next month. Will update with pics once completed.
That’s all for now folks.

What shape is the windscreen in after all those miles and stone chips/wiper blade scratches... think I would go that route, and get it done...if say you had a little accident.

It’s a fair point, actually it’s not in bad shape surprisingly. However, those aluminium vents need bolts through them with nuts underneath and that cannot be done without taking the dash out.. just the windscreen out would not be enough apparently I’m told.

The uprated dashboard side vents just arrived from Canada. These are printed in 3-D using a high grade automotive resin.
They should just pop in once the old ones are removed and are held in place by 4 small tabs.

All looks great, do enjoy reading about your cars however the one I’m most interested in features a lot less - when do you find time to drive the B5?! Does it wear the miles as well as the 360?

I actually sold the B5 Touring a little while ago as it wasn’t getting much use (got a Transit to do most of the lugging around) Must have forgotten to remove from profile.
It did wear the miles well, did an awful lot of continental trips and averaged around 10,000 miles a year. Only issue was a new supercharger @ £4K.
Pretty rapid thing with 700 Nm torque (note the rear badge) ;)

The 360 is going in to AV, Aldous, next week for her annual treatment and timing belts.
I’m sure he’ll do her proud.
Following that, I’ll swap her round with my GT for her annual big service.. this time; all fluids, belts and a thorough underbody inspection. Last time was a couple of years ago.

Dropped off 360 at AV yesterday. Lots of nice 360/430s in the workshop.
A few additional small fixes were added to the 3 year big service + cam belts and the cosmetic fixes.
Recently replaced my iPhone 12 with a 15 which now has a USB-C plug.. sigh.. the single DIN Kenwood no longer works with the new phone (I have quite an uprated system in the car with custom tweeter housings, subs behind both seats and two rather large amps up front in the boot)
Hoping a replacement usb-c cable will do the trick but could not get to the unit and since Aldous is removing the entire dash anyway, I asked him to swap the cables over.
If that doesn’t work I’m considering an Alpine Halo 9 single DIN unit for Apple CarPlay (very happy with the SI CarPlay in the Granturismo)
I know it won’t look very OEM but with the amount of road trips I’ve got coming up in spring/summer, I could really do with a no faff system for nav, music and phone.
Thoughts on this anyone?

Initial feedback from AV after pre-service inspection.. we’ve got a leaking rear main seal unfortunately.. undertray wet with oil and oil in and under the clutch bell housing.
Gearbox off to get to the seal.
Apparently the seal can go hard if left standing around and not driven enough.. and then starts to leak. It’s 4 years and 8000 miles since engine rebuild and new rear main seal. Guess I better start driving it more regularly rather than just long road trips..

Aldous decoupled the gearbox straight away and the leak is obvious below the crank.

I have been looking at the single DIN for my GS, there’s a classic porsche unit that is very expensive and also cheap Chinese options with AirPlay.
I haven’t moved on either of these as other priorities at the moment.
Something similar to the below so not to hide the AC controls

Good shout, thank you. Just slightly worried the screen might be a little small for sat nav/Waze. Also, it needs to be able to work with the multiple amps & subs etc I have installed.

Ouch that escalated quickly! 4 years isn’t long for a main seal and with the miles you do if the factor.

Yep, not great but if left, it will ruin the clutch pack - the seal itself is £20 but obviously quite a few hours to remove gearbox and refit.

Yes 100% got to be repaired but as you say not a quick one
