A full set of USED Maserati 4200 brake pads - I have swapped to the Green Gripper pads.

There is still a lot of "meat" on them but I offer them here in case anyone has any use for them.

I can deliver to Auto Italia next Saturday or can post if you cover the cost.

If there is no interest by the end of the month, they'll be going in the bin!

David it is a very generous offer, but used brake components is never a great idea.

How do the Green Grippers work?

Only posted them up in case any one has any R&D work they would like to do; as you say not a great idea to put someone elses pad on your discs.

I have jst had a quick blat down the lane to take the surface coating off the GG's so can't say what they are like yet other than the first few times of using them, they were very noisy but that's probably only them bedding in.
I have my doubts that the discs are going to pass an MOT in a few months due to the look of the surface. I could probably get them machined while I'm waiting for FD to get their new supply up and running if I have to.

Once I have done a few miles I will post up a report on how they are doing.

I read on one of the Maserati indi sites that there is a set process to bed the pads in on a 4200...I am sure it was one of the indi in the midlands who have a page on 'fixes' such as seats, battery re-sets etc.

I believe there is when bedding in any new pads,
Jeff from FD included an instruction sheet when he sent me my pads (havn't installed them yet),
There are lots of articles out there including this... http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm
which is very similar to the instructions I was sent,

Thanks for the info chaps, the link was an interesting read and not far off what I was having a go at yesterday.
I should think I will have them up and running in the next day or so.

Might have them as a "just in case" spare for the garage, I'm very happy to pay postage. I'm also looking to identify "pattern parts" rather than use genuine hugely expensive ! Maserati spares..........I'm told Alfa Romeo pads are the same (mines a 4200 coupe), where did you get these alternative pads and have you identified an alternative oil filter ?

Dave - I may already have a taker for these, but I will let you know.
My new ones are Green Gripper as supplied by the Belfast Brake Company (see top thread in the 4200 section).
Only done a few miles on them and they are still scary as there was little bite first thing this morning!!

David, they have got some sort of Bed in surface. I take the pads were nice and loose in the calipers?

Matt - Yes there was a surface covering which actually stated that and it should burn off on the first application of the brakes.
All pad were free and easy to remove and the caliper pistons all moved very easily too. I put a couple of blobs of copper slip on the backs on the new pads and they dropped straight in.
Once I had worked out how the retaining spring worked on the rears, it took me no more than a couple of hours to do the job but that also included washing the inside of the wheels, polishing the brake calipers etc, etc...
I think given a few more miles they will be fine although I'm more convinced than ever that I do need new discs unless these can have the faces machined clean.

David, are you getting vibration from heavy braking, not just with the new pads, but with the old. New pads usually mask the vibration for a few hundred miles, but then it comes back

Not had any vibration, just low stopping power with the old ones, it felt like I was having to press too hard to get the braking effect.
I should have taken some pictures while I was in there, but it's the surface corrosion I'm now more cencerned about, the car had stood for about two years with very little use other than driving to an MOT station and that's probably whats done it.
I have covered about 2k miles since January and I would have thought that the discs would have cleaned themselves up by now, but the surface still looks very dull and the holes were full of brake dust, but I have managed to clear most of that out now.

Arh, David, are your rear pads making a partial cleaning of the disc. I had this back in Jan/Feb. I bought all new pads as I thought they were getting low, but it turned out to be lack of use and it getting left outside all winter, hardly used. The pads/calipers stick from lack of use and cause partial rust removal of the rear disc.

Simple fix, just drive it everyday for a week, job done.

So what you're saying is that a good track day is what's needed! ;-)

Thanks for your replies Matt!
