Gearbox Filter 4200

A question the filter in the box can be released and pulled out. Question can it be cleaned or does a new one have to be fitted. Any advice please.

It can be cleaned, but you will need a new o-ring. There was a design change, the new ones have the o-ring groove nearer the outside, old ones nearer the hole.

Be very gentle with the securing bolt, I had to drill mine out which is no fun at all.

Thanks is it mentioned on any servicing schedule? What happened to the securing bolt? Did you just clean and replace or fit a new one?

The schedule suggests the oil is changed every two years.

Mine bolt was snapped by the last person to do the change, they used a sealant to secure the filter and glued the bolt head back in place. A bit of a bodge job.

I had to remove the filter in pieces and then drill the bolt, helicoil the hole and use a new bolt and filter. This required the removal of the exhaust to give the space. I'm sure you won't have the same issue but it would pay to take care of the bolt!
