Ghibli Reliability

I'm considering getting a secondhand Ghibli for a daily. And just generally to have fun in. The 3200 stays in the garage keeping the miles off it.
I look after my cars and have mechanical sympathy but what is you guys' view on their reliability? I'm thinking petrol engine.

Had mine for coming up to a year. Loving it. No issues at all so far, apart from the headlamp washers, so check those as it's a grand(ish) to fix and technically an MOT fail.

Was advised to buy one with big brakes and without headlamp washers. 2 years, 100% reliable.

Benzina also, there are more horror stories on diesel, but there are more of them about.

I looked at a diesel. Didn't even bother driving it. The S though..... :as002:

I'm on my 2nd. First a 2014 dv6 had it from 6k to 110k miles. Had the headlight washer issue and an issue with some new brakes. Nothing else. Current is a 2019 gransport dv6. Got with 11k miles on now coming up to 50k 1 issue with oil leak fixed under warranty and 1 issue with adblu heater.
Overall very reliable.

I may need to get out of mine soon, as the company won’t pay the 45p for cars with CO2 this high. I’m on an ‘exceptions’ list at present

Hi All, I’m also looking at getting a Ghibli from 2020 on. Looking for some feedback on reliability from actual owners as they don’t have a great reputation based on YouTube vids etc. Comments on this thread seem more positive though, and any more would be welcome…

Over two years and have only had a £10 ambient air sensor fail, it just displayed the wrong outside temp. YouTube mainly features Americans used to two valve pushrod engines, these are more solid than a BMW and really simple to service. Very few issues on post 17 petrols. Mine sometimes warms up a bit lumpy, sometimes not, perfect otherwise.

Generally speaking, grumbles get reported more than praise as people need to vent when something goes wrong, and youtube is a handy medium for that. You should get a more balanced opinion from indies, and I'd be surprised if properly maintained Ghiblis fell short of expectations. I agree with CJ about American perceptions.

Appreciate the feedback, thank you!

I did 50k+ miles in my 2015 S for the 3 years I had it. The only issue was a steering pump failure, which ended up needing a full replacement of the system. It was kept outside for all of that time and didn't miss a beat. If I could afford to have one as a daily I'd buy another tomorrow.

Here's some of the fun I had in mine with other SM members.
