Giulietta battery

Evening. Mrs C has a 15 Giulietta M-Air TB with start / stop. Recently the start / stop has started starting but not stopping.

Can someone recommend a battery? They seem to be all over the place regarding AGM / vs standard.

(I understand the neutral sensor can be an issue as well, but haven't scanned the car as yet)

If you put a standard lead acid battery in (096) the start stop will cease to function which is the way I like it.

If you do want it to work, and don’t want to fork out for an AGM battery fit the cheaper EFB start stop technology battery, does the same as the AGM without the cost

I turned stop start off on Ms French's Twinair it drives me nuts.
She likes it and has worked out how to put it back on as she likes gadgets.

I hate it too, another solution to a problem that wasn't there.

The garage has got a BMW diag tool for next week to try and understand why the ECU is logging random faults all over the place so I have asked that the default for stop / start should be off by default on start up and can be selected if required by pressing the button (not that I ever will)

I actually have nothing against it. Never had it fail to have the engine running by the time I'm lifting the clutch. Still, each to their own.

Modern Cars Andy and the issues they are giving is making me pleased I'm very soon out of it and just Classics for me.
I've lost count how much time I've spent on this Mercedes Benz Adblue software issue and I'm working for nothing.
Got another Garage yesterday to hook up their Bosch and Autel diagnostic gear and no further than my Launch.
Vexing as the car is full of Bosch systems and it's now very close to not starting.

Is this the 'you're out of Adblue so we won't let you start'? problem? You might want to do some digging on the Ghibli forum. Same issue reported there. Might be nothing to do with it, of course. Just a thought

Had a Ghibli in with an Adblue issue, kept filling it but the miles still counted down.

Turned out he’d driven over something and split the pipe after the pump.

When the car was driving it was spraying the adblue on the floor and not into the exhaust.

Simple pipe repair and sorted.

Wish it was that simple.
Thought I'd cracked it when I found the nozzle blocked up with crystallised Adblue.
Actuated it via my Launch and it injects the fluid lovely into the exhaust.

You sure it’s adblue in the tank and not water? Seen people putting water in, it tricks the counter for about 200 miles then reverts back to restricted mileage. Flush and replace with adblue and again it takes 200 miles to correct itself.

This is based on the VW system which I assume is Bosch.

Phil have a look on mbworld.org there’s lots on there about the sensors crystallising.

Very interesting Matt just watched that.
Biggest problem is customers rarely tell the truth.
One problem is the quality of the Adblue is logged on the CDI module and will not clear I've put 15 liters of Adblue in the tank and my Launch confirmed it's full.
The car drives fine just won't reset and now the fuel light is on too I've got 16 miles before a non start.
A Mercedes technician I know in Bristol tells me I will only sort by a factory software update and using MB Star diagnostics.
That leaves me Laval or Rennes.
I've got the latest software on my Launch and purchased the Adblue module software getting me no further than when I started.
I'm going to quiz the owner further on Monday.

I get the feeling that modern manufacturers design systems without really thinking end to end, so you get increasingly sophisticated cars which require hugely expensive diagnostic kit that the average dealer tech doesn't even understand and can't interpret. Given the increase in main dealers charging big money just for dubious diagnostics, it all seems a bit of a con, with DPF and Adblue problems being prime examples.

Oh for the days when a drop of Redex was all you needed.
