Gransport Airconditioning Compressor

After three years of trouble free ownership my Gransport has decided it's time for the air conditioning compressor to give up the ghost. Is there any alternative part or does Eurospares sell them ( I couldn't find it on their website)

Tks

Not sure Geoff but I do know not to buy a used one if its been left open to the elements. If they are not turned over regularly they seize up.

Rob bought one recently and I think it was about £1100 but worth checking Alfas out as you might just be able to swap out the pulley or mount.

Start with a GTV and 166 and let is know how you get on.

Google images or Ebay is a good place to start to get a visual.

Usual problem is the bearing for the clutch wearing the nose casing, makes a lovely noise and scraps the front casing but the rest is usually ok

Thanks everyone, I found the item on Eurospares for GBP 780 plus freight plus duty so a pretty hefty bill. AndyG has described the symptoms perfectly with the front case havering partially self destructed. Shipping it in from the UK is only marginally cheaper than purchase from main dealer here so I'll probably bite the bullet go that route.
AndyG what's the dryer that needs to be changed before the recharge?
Cheers

Bargain Geoff and thanks for the link.

Seems to be Matt but a bit concerning that they can supply an OEM part at so much lower price than Eurospares or main dealer. I would buy from them if someone on here had some experience with them but a little nervous about ground breaking from so far away.

Sorry to highjack this thread but my a/c seems to have a mind of its own especially when set on auto.

It seems to fluctuate between hot & cold with high speed fan and the temp setting seems very sensitive.

Also often switches automatically to internal circulation on it's own.

Any ideas what this might be?

Isn't there an ECU or electrics in the floor that can suffer from damp? I'm sure I saw something similar on another thread...maybe it was you Roger.

Roger, I fixed a similar problem with my Gransport heater only yesterday. It kept switching itself to recirc from econ when I hit a bump. It also blew hot when set to cold. I thought it was water in the electrics by the passenger footwell but that was dry and then I noticed that every time I touched right hand heater control knob, or pushed the surround near that knob, the heater would change setting, and sometimes even the heated rear screen came on. I took the heater control unit out and opened it up and after a few minutes testing it I found a solder joint broken on the front circuit board. It was on the electronic switch that the right hand control knob attaches to and every time I touched it the setting changed. A quick dab with a soldering iron and all is now fixed again. Message back if you'd like more details, I have some photos of the job.

The symptems do sound very similar, I will be in the car tomorrow so will have another look around.

Maybe take the heater control panel off at the weekend for further investigation.

Thanks for posting, rgd's

One of our group has now placed an order with a Compressor Express so we will be able to report back in a couple of weeks
