At £30-32k you can get into an MC or Auto 4.7 which is what I’d do.

I appreciate your views dickygrace, the MC isn't really an option as living in a city centre I need something comfortable in traffic! I have thought about the 4.7s in the early 30s but they look like I'd be getting a much more used car than an immaculate low mileage 4.2 for late 20s.

Food for thought!

Understood and if you live in a city an Auto is better. There are lots more differences between a 4.2 and 4.7 rather than just .5l of engine capacity though.

As Dicky has said if 4.7 is the better car....The only other thing to think about when getting a 4.7 is running costs. I believe it will cost you more to run from what I've read on here but sure someone can confirm either way.

It’ll cost less.

Depreciation, which is always the biggest factor when purchasing a prestige car. Secondly, so long as you buy a later 4.7 then it won’t require variator modification, almost all 4.2’s will have engine no’s below 148697. What’s likely to cost more; front discs, and that’s all as far as I have experienced. Fuel consumption differences are negligible. A 4.7 is also likely to be 2-3 years newer therefore having less wear from age.

Interesting to note that the 4.7 on long motorway cruise at constant 70-80mph ish speed returns nearly 400 miles per tank. Quite impressive really. Its when you cane them that they drink it...and they certainly encourage you to do that!

I echo Dicky's sentiments above. If your in the market for a GT, the post 2009 GTS and Auto is definitely worth pushing your budget up £5k...it will cost you less (if you get one with a recent clutch if MC) and £30k has to be the floor for a descent lowish mileage example so buy early £30k's and you should have a pleasant tenure.

I'm struggle with that. So surely a 4.2 at 23/25k has less to depreciate than a 4.7 at 35/40k. get the variators but you may be lucky and a clutch in a 4.7 MC is not much less than variators which you don't have in a 4.2. Add cost bales in a 4.7 like brakes which are chunky money wise and mpg which is less surely a 4.7 will cost more to run. Or am I talking ********....I normally do
