GS Transmission noise?

G'day from down under again.

Just lately, I've been aware of a rhythmic squeaking noise, which I think is coming somewhere from the transmission.
It's only just audible over the exhaust noise. It has a frequency of a few Hz that correlates with engine speed and gear. Accelerate and Hz increases. Up a gear and the Hz reduces. No noise when in N or stationary.
I initially though it was a squeaky wheel noise but popping it into N while in motion caused the squeak to disappear instantly and returns when reengaging a gear.
It only occurs after cold start and always gradually fades away completely within five minutes of driving.
Hard to localise the noise because it's only present when driving.

Any thoughts what it could be and whether it's of any concern?

Thanks.
John

hi John

when was your gearbox oil/filter checked, maybe get this checked out - could be as simple as replacing the oil and filter (which I do hope it is) I think we have a few threads about this now, others have come up with some suggestion to check. do quick search on gearbox

Sounds like Gearbox oil and maybe filter, if the noise goes when moving and out of gear, then it's pretty good assumption it's gearbox oil level, as the oil warms it exapnds a bit and the noise goes, try topping the level up..!!

Thanks. I was thinking it might be the gearbox oil too.
I will book it in for gearbox oil change next week.
I wasn't aware it had a filter though - is that easy to replace?

this should be easy one bolt and pulls out, but I think its about £40+ for the filter.

I'm sure the garage will know but just make sure once topped up, need to run the gearbox and topup again

fingers crossed for ya...
