On looking at the photo again, no wonder they give up the ghost so readily when the discs corrode so badly/easily

Maverick,
Those discs do not look in brilliant condition, you have loads of blocked gas holes and the lip is quite enhanced, haqve you measured them to see if they are still within limits..??

Yes gas holes where drilled out and I agree there dont look the best and if I had the time I would of skimmed them and bought new pads but there should be replaced really . Maybe at the next service

You can get Brembo / Ferrari 550 discs which fit, from AP Brakes in West Yorkshire, the price is not bad either..!!
Handbrake tip: Every few weeks just pull the handbrake on when doing around 10-20 mph, only for a few seconds and two or three times, this will clean up the pad and the inside of the disc so the shoes don't stick..!!

I hope you don't mind me joining in on your forum. I am new to Sports Maserati, having just acquired a 4200 about 5 weeks ago(I have a feeling this may be a familiar car to you!). Great fun and so much to learn, including how not to use the handbrake. I have had exactly the same problem as maverick described. Given the awful weather, I haven't used the car for a few days, tried to reverse it out, lots of problems, terrible noises and now the handbrake has pretty much gone slack. I am prepared to have a go at fixing this myself(given the comments above) but I could do with a bit of advice. Where is best place to get parts?, where can I access the 'technical guide' or do I need a service manual, if so where from? Any help/advice very welcome.
Cheers Jon

Welcome John

Short advice: Don't use the handbrake, I leave mine in gear. Other opinions may be just as valid though :)

Sounds to me that your shoes have de-laminated. So you can buy new shoes at £eeeek or have them relined. Eurospares have the shoes in stock it seems. Belfast Brakes are the generally recommended re-liners and that's about £30.

There's a how to if I recall on replacing them. It's quite simple looking.

Hope that helps, welcome and have a Happy Christmas!

Hi Jon, sorry to hear of yet another handbrake mechanism complete failure!

You may well need parts other than just the shoes, I will post up a link for you so you won't get robbed by our friendly MDs!

The reason women are so good at multi tasking?..........They can't prioritise.
