Hi everyone

Finally got round to my admin and already can see what a great forum this is. I have had the 4200GT nearly a year and have been thoroughly delighted. It was a great car from Nareman at Nuvola 22k on clock £22k great colour top spec with most options. The gentlemen before had spent £3330 on a service in April 14.

Service will be due in summer ( I always stretch a little when I haven't done many miles only 4k) so my first request is what to do?

Nothing needs doing it feels apart from 2nd key doesn't work so needs recoding I am presuming. Last service was pretty hefty £3300 which included 4 new tyres (why are all car nuts the same? do a big service than move it on but thank god we are!)

Service was annual plus 2 year so all fluids done.

My options are:

1. Local guy Alfa/Maserati specialist small outfit called ProAlfa in Watford. He is good mechanically runs his own Masa's and sorted some fairly tricky stuff for me previously said he can get the service kit from Eurospares

2. Regular Maserati independent

3. Main dealer - all services seem to be at main dealer throughout

I guess it would have to be someone with the kit to code the key which I would really like working, Nareman has a deal with the Jardines in Colchester I understand ideas would be welcome.

Finally a recommendation. I have a small interest in this business www.axgroup.net if you need any body stuff done. We do most of the work for Revere who trick up Range Rovers (usually most horribly but don't say anything...). Contact me or go straight to them quoting GregMasa

Look forward to learning about all things Maserati

Your second key. In what way does it not work? Won't start the car or won't open the doors?

Hello Mr C

I believe in a broad church of petrol heads why not :) I had a few including. 9000 Italian lineage wasn't that a shared platform?

My favourite was a 4 door ( should only be 2 door) Aero original shape full spec all extras apparently special build for the UK MD at the time, my last was a Chilli Red aero convertible in the last shape. Got to say with top down still beats a bmw or Mercedes for clean lines., and I know it was considered a gimmick but the black dash feature where you hit a button and the only visible dial was the speedo at night was really good on the eyes

Thanks for the note and good to be on the forum

Hi greg are you local to Watford. And where is the specialist you use. I've used a garage in bushey befor now and his mate works for H.R OWEN. and his come out if anything tricky. But would rather go somewhere else that understands the car more and local. I'm not bothered about main dealer as I'll keep my car for as long as I can drive her.

I am in Goffs Oak so yes. Chris at http://www.proalfa.com/ seems a good guy I am an Alfisti and from experience they are pretty demanding, whenever I go there he has some serious work going I.e complete chassis stuff being ripped apart for racing enthusiasts

When I said I had a Masa he said he has had a few personally and knows how to work on them and I believe him.

He said you can get the service kit from Euro spares and away you go

He is certainly worth a call

Goff's Oak? We're only in Harlow. Your key will almost certainly not need recoding. It only needs that when it won't start the car (normally).

First thing to try. It may simply have become out of sync with the rolling code the alarm is expecting to receive. Try pressing the remote twice, quickly next to the car. Then see if that helps.

Otherwise there is a process to add new keys to the alarm system (separate from the CODE system that immbolises the car). This is what the dealers do, so there's no point in paying.

Using the good key repeatedly lock and unlock the car about 17 times. You'll see the car will suddenly go into learning mode. The LED on the dash changes it's flashing.

When you're in that mode you can add any remote by simply activating it within range.

More details are on the thread, so a quick search may help but if you fancy a coffee be happy to through it with you.

Welcome to the joy!

My bet is the micro switch inside the key has fallen off and needs spot soldered on. Open both keys and you will spot immediately the difference if the case.

Option 2 for service, a good proper Maser indi will best maintain your car and know what to look for/ how to fix

Good luck.

Try changing the battery. The case just comes apart with a bit of levering and the battery is easily accessible.

Excellent! So that's a few hundred saved already :)

I use Felice at Sunnyside. Not a Maser specialist, but Maserati trained and been looking after my Alfas for more years than I can recall. I trust him totally.

http://alfafiatservice.co.uk/

He has some access to an SD3, but if we ever start needing that, I'll probably go to McGrath, where I got my new key added to the CODE system.
