Home CCTV cameras

Anyone up on home security cameras? Someone on the street has had their conservatory broken into, no idea if anything was taken but it does make me think some cameras wouldn't be a bad idea. Even if its just to watch the myhermes man chuck parcels over the fence!

I've seen a good quality "budget" one

or an ebay special (although its a fair bit of cash so hoping its better than a really cheap unbranded one)

anyone any thoughts or recommendations? I'm not wanting to break the bank.

The second one you need to buy the hard drive to put in it so factor in around £50 to £60 for a purple HDD capable of long term cctv use. Any other HDD will fail after 12 months or so use as standard hard drives are not designed to be recording data constantly.

The swann kits are fairly good for the money and most now are capable of D1 recording which is like HD quality as against the h.264 recording standard on the cheaper options.

The swan systems allow you remote access via your smart phone via an easy to use app.

I got mine from Maplin a years ago. They did Swann. Quality was ok and reasonable prices. Worth a look..

I have a conbination of hardwired swann and 'iegeek' ip cameras across the house and garages. Both reasonably priced and good quality. No problems after 2 years anyway..

I've got a DLINK camera overlooking my drive. Only £30 but I can remote in from my phone and monitor sound. It's got alert detection for sound and video. You can take photos but it doesn't record but I'm looking into that. Here's a photograph from this morning.
