I changed my fronts today following this well written "How to". Just a little addition which may help the first timers is there's a small clip you need to pull off the solid brake pipe fixing to allow the pipe to go down through the hole so that you can then pull the calliper out of the way.image.jpg

Maf - excellent write up and very good pictures, I've just replaced my handbrake shoes with a set from Belfast Brakes after last years shananigans with the broken cable, I am now able to report the handbrake holds!!!!!!
However being a 3200 it has now decided to throw up a CEL, NO/ASR and ABS lights!!!!!! - I did run the engine with the wheels off to clean up the disks as I touched in the paint which had gone a bit rusty.
I turned off the battery isolator as it was getting dark

Anyone changed the hand brake shoes? Any tips on releasing the adjusters?

I thought you had the rear disks off earlier in the week?

Wheel of, rotate window of drum to just forward of TDB, medium flat blade screw driver and a pencil torch to locate the daisy wheel, one is up to release the other is down but cannot remember which is which... Then lots of knocking the drum about with a mallet... to get it over the shoes.

If you have the adjusters out then cannot move them, they may just need a good soak in paraffin or WD40. They are basically three parts, nothing to damage. I have to say I got replacement parts for the lever (in the drum) from Maserati and no part was more than £15...

Good luck

Got the discs off fine, but given the worn and broken state of the old shoe's I want to make sure I have the adjusters fully "relaxed" before I fit the new shoes and disc. Now that I know what I'm looking for it should be much simpler than fumbling around. It's more years than I care to remember since I fitted brake shoes!

As I say, three parts; daisy wheel, forked cup and threaded cup.

Also, GB brakes in Belfast can turn your shoes around in 24 hours or less for £35 to reline them :)

Is there meant to be a wire going to the brake pads on both sides of the front of the car? Mine only has sensor on nearside. Is that correct? There are two lots of wires going to the hub on the drivers side, what do they do?

Brake pad wear sensor on the front nearside only on the 4200/GS, not sure about the 3200. The other cable will be your ABS sensors.

I'm going for the Swedish colours yellow & blue :thumb:
The Pagids are pricy but boy they are good!
Have used them on the front earlier and also on my track day Porsche with tremendous results. Night and day compared to the original stuff!
Will (hopefully) be a pleasure to now test them all around with the new discs : )

Hi guys, tackled Mine today. I have removed the rears & it would appear the handbrake shoes have turned to dust. Does anyone know if there is an off the shelf replacement? Ideally I'd like to get finished tomorrow, so guess Halfords would be my only option.
Cheers

Unlikely from them.

New from your main dealer or Eurospares.

Probably a bit ambitious... Didn't know if they were the same as fitted to something less exotic. Looks like the job will have to run into next week :-(

Seriously, if you are resigned to completing next weekend, use Belfast (GB) brakes to refurb you're handbrake shoes, £35 for the set plus postage I think, a genuine 24 hour service and you know they will fit!
