Issues with GS

Hi

I have had my MC Victory a month now and have been ironing out a few niggles. Some advice would be appreciated.

When it is wet and I am travelling at speed I can hear running water from the passenger door area - is this the drain from top of bonnet? Is it normal?
I have a number of rattles in the cabin - the glove box catch is one, passenger window and I think the headlining behind the drivers right shoulder. Any advice on sorting these out? Should I just expect this with an 8 yr old car?
Scratches on heating dials and and sticky / worn window switches? Can the dials be repainted or the rubber seal removed on switches be removed and reapplied?
Brakes - a bit noisy, scratchy when starting in the wet, assume it is normal?

Many thanks for any advice

- This is usually a blocked drain hole under the bonnet where the hinges are, get a stick and have poke around, it will drain out the bottom of the wing.

- I have spend time addressing these and yes, my headliner is a culprit. You can get new xmas tree clips from Maserati, then get yourself a rubber hammer and go banging things. I also found that you can put wedges or folded paper or material up under the headlining by pulling off the curtain trims to pack it. The curtain trims are also another one that rattle badly.

- you can get this finish from Plasticoat but the norm is just to replace them.

- This is due to surface rust forming on the discs during the wet weather after being stood, quite normal if the condition of the brakes are good.

Try some dry lube in the areas where squeeks and rattles are but don't spray on exposed areas as it's a bugger to remove.

New window switches are about £90 a pair...contact Ross at Meridian Modena as ask is he can give you the forum bulk buy discount.

Check our post on here on how to replace them (GS Sticky Buttons)

With the heater and window switches just rub off all of the rubber coating with your thumbnail or a blunt plastic scraper and then polish them with autosol. They won't be matt finish but gloss actually looks great next to the gloss finish of the carbon trim in my GS. Don't just pull off the heater knobs though. There are little springs that will fly all over the place if you do and if you lose them the knobs won't click into place as you rotate them to different settings. Remove the heater control panel and then gently release the knobs from behind. Also, don't get the knobs mixed up, one has a longer shaft than the others.
On the glove box the trick is to adjust the 2 little rubber stops correctly. I have fitted some lock nuts to mine as they kept working lose.

Good luck!

For the buttons, you can also remove the sticky parts with your nails and use your wife's nail polish remover (GENTLY!) to remove the sticky mat black material and end up with nice shiny clean buttons. DO NOT rub too hard or you will remove the shiny black layer too.

I also have a lot of squeaks and rattles coming from the leather interior trims... I will try to use zip ties and tie it hard when I have time one of this days. The driver's side (I am LHD) back quarter panel upper one is vibrating quite bad...

I have had similar problems with my headliner and went through a similar process to Matt to fix it. In my case I used new clips from Eurospares and cut up a new sponge to form some extra padding between the panel and the roof itself. Works a treat.

I intend to buy some new window switches and a Sport switch in the spring and move the position of the start button and hazard lights to suit a RHD car as many others have done.

Mine also lets in a little water through the nearside wing mirror area when a jet wash is aimed at precisely the right angle. That's another one for the spring that should be easy enough to locate and repair. I hope!
