hi all. i have recently found a maserati Kyalani in an old disused garage on my land, it has been abandoned over 20 years ago. the car itself has no registration documents or anything like that. it is in good condition and with a little work and TLC would be an excellent example. the only thing is, i know nothing about the car! from what i have seen online, it is quite rare, but i have no idea about sale value, or even how to open the boot! im not looking to sell right at this moment, but if there is anyone on here who owns one or who knows anything about the car it would be greatly appreciated if you would contact me. my email is, matt444jc10@hotmail.com

thanks

Hi Matt, these are very rare beasts, so finding an owner won't be easy, but we do have members whose expertise is cars of this era, so all I can urge is patience.

In the meantime I would recommend Enrico's pages. They're not the easiest to navigate, but they're well worth the perseverance.

You might find this helpful in the meantime....

(Oops, that link isn't working properly..... go to page 65 and scroll down.

Scroll down and there's a seller in the US. It might be worth contacting him?

Hope this helps?

Regards, Miles.

Not wishing to sound like a party pooper but a Kyalami that hasn't moved for twenty years isn't likely to be a financially viable project. Rare they may be, but valuable they are not (yet). A Maserati abandoned in a barn was probably abandoned for a very good reason at the time - but, you never know!!!

You might find some lunatic enthusiast who would take it on to restore because the labour would be free, but I doubt they would pay much for it. I would expect every oil seal to be scrap, even if the engine is free (i.e. not seized) it will at least need a strip down and clean before rebuilding with new seals/gaskets etc. Same for the gearbox, diff.

At least if it isn't rusty most of this stuff can be done by a gifted/skilled home restorer.

If I was Matt I'd get air in the tires and see if it can roll, then get it in the daylight so a decent evaluation can be made. By which I mean he can take lots of pictures and us lazy sodz can banter on about it in a semi-informed and enthusiastic manner!

Hosing the dust off is unlikely to harm it, provided it can then be kept dry and the water stays on the outside of the car....

No idea how the boot opens on a Kyalami I'm afraid, quite possibly via a remote lever in the cockpit.

Hmm, I have to stop thinking about this car.....

Which part of the country are you in Matt?? (please don't be local.... please don't be local...)

haha im not local paco, im in the midlands. ive found out how to open the boot off one of the links frank gave me, so im going to see if theres anything else in there that can tell us anything about the history of the car. as for moving it and stuff, im taking franks advice and waiting to hear bk from someone who knows what theyre on about. for all i know, we may find the owner! in which case he owes 20 years rent, but hey, thats another story lol in the mean time, if viable, ill try and wash it down a little and see if i cant get some photos.
