I've read a few threads on scantools but noting really answered my question. Does anyone know of a laptop based scantool that will amongst other things reset service lights?

In the Audi world I used Rosstech VCDS so looking for something similar if it exists?

thanks in advance

Am I right in saying that this only does pre-2012 GTs, not the first or second facelift cars (2012 &2018) onwards.

I’m not sure that’s right, there is not a lot different module wise from pre to post facelift.

As for the OPs question, there isn’t anything like VCDS, mainly because there are so many VWs, doing all the coding stuff was worth it, the Maserati system of proxy alignment doesn’t lend itself to the same “coding” efforts.

That's what I read on the website, and your answer confirms my reason for asking.

I asked this very question pre purchase, the answer was it covers all M145, which as far as I understand is from 2007 to 2019. You can always double check with them

Before I bought my 2011 I was looking at anything from 2010 to.2014 to buy, I have only tried the tool on my 2011

shame I'm always a bit wary of wireless stuff dropping out at exactly the wrong moment to brick something
It's very reliable nowadays, just don't walk away with your laptop whilst doing something critical. Cables are also likely to disconnect themselves as well.

Every Dealer I've worked for when it comes to programming always with a cable into the 16 pin port rather than wireless and that includes Maserati.

For all diagnostics and service functions Bluetooth is used on majority of tools. Any error will just fail to get the data or not receive the service function command.

“Programming” is a different matter. When updating ECU firmware etc a wired USB connection is preferred. Data corruption during the process could brick the unit. But so would losing connection or power. It maybe a legacy concern as latest Bluetooth transfer is very robust and many Bluetooth devices now have their firmware updated over Bluetooth.

Exactly that and if we didn't do it as per factory and something got goosed we would be responsible so just do it that way.
Last year for Toyota for many months most of the work I did was programming 12 hours a day thousands of cars done and got through a few cables too.
Never had to replace one through normal daily work.
