Looking for a 4200

From what I can tell my options are:

- Fit some end boxes, either switchable or not. Larini non switchable are +-£1300, switchable +-£1600 - both more than I want to spend
- Fit some Sport cats or straight throughs on the centre section, Lrini do some race straight throughs for £974 - do these make the car fail the MOT emissions?
- Get the existing back boxes remade by someone like Hayward and Scott in basildon, using the existing valves in new stainless back boxes.. I think this is what I'm going to go for unless some used back boxes come up..

Nice! Glad you got a Gransport rather than 4200 - think it will suit you better. As others have said H pipe would be louder. Regarding the headers, if you have the ones with the cats you could get the cats carefully cut out in situ as I recall - I think this is what Craig Waterhouse did to his?? Would be much cheaper than new ones...

Thanks all for the nice comments, loving the car right now!! Decided the get back boxes done through BennyD, thanks very much for your help fella!! Took them off yesterday and will send them tomorrow.

The heater control knobs are peeling.. I presume only solution is to replace? Is is an easy job and anyone have an idea on price?
Video should be out tomorrow

Lorenzo on the US forum can re-finish buttons and knobs for a very competitive price

I think you might need to start using that little box in the top corner mate... Search

First video on the GranSport! And no, I did not pay £15k for it obviously.. that just refers to the normal 4200's that can be bought for that price!! Unfortunately youtube needs what is called 'clickbait' to draw attention!

Hey everyone, a quick update. I've not been able to use the car much as I would have wanted.. been busy working on my Porsche 964 (converting from 4 wheel drive to 2 week drive..) and also bought a bargain Alfa GTV to muck about with for a couple of months.
I have been enjoying the GS, drove to Portsmouth and the odd shorter drive on weekends, so far I've resisted the temptation to meddle too much with it, I have retrofitted Cruise (unbelievable this car came without!) following the EXCELLENT guide on the forum (THANKS Contigo!), also I sent the back boxes off to Bennyd, here on the forum and he was most helpful, model them for more noise. Still too quiet for me but really any other options are just too much money so I will now keep it as is. It actually sounds great from the road.. but too civilised in the cabin.
Will do another update video on the Maser very soon...
If any of you are interested this is the first drive in my 964 after the conversion.. and the breakdown.

Interesting.
Is converting from C4 to C2 a common mod? Not into Porsche circles but I would imagine with the prices of 964's this would hurt resale?
Of course, sometimes, this is irrelevant if the car is more of a 'keeper'.

Not a common mod and will pose difficulties when trying to off-load it. Not relevant if its a keeper.
The 4wd body is far more desirable but then to convert it to 2wd?
Apart from weight saving, cant see any benefit in it personally.

That's probably why there is this thing called 'personal taste'.

The overwhelming majority of Porsche buyers want the car as it left the factory. Originality is high on the essentials list. Tune it, chip it, change the exhaust, modify it and the pool of buyers is reduced to a fraction of what it would be for a factory original car.

Well chaps.. the GranSport has been sold. Thanks to all the private members on this forum who got in touch with me and answered my posts, I found you all to be a most helpful bunch and this to be a great forum, loads of help from here. Also Matt at Giallo who was most helpful and seemed like a very honest, reliable example of a Maserati expert and trader!
My last vid on the day i sold the GS is below. You never know though.. I may well come back to the fold with a different Maser at some point in the near future..

Thanks Jack, for the car and the videos. I've just had the tracking done and it feels a bit more steady now. Starting to really like driving it after a few days of hesitation. Good luck with Number 9.

Thanks Jack...gearbox...well I had to comment. Its all about the set up. If you get it setup they are lighting quick.

From your video, it appeared you were not in SPORT with I am sure you were which leads me to believe your PIS point was not set well and led to laggy changes.

All the best, get the Evora (red one) it made me look twice. As nice as the AMG is, its just a German Taxi and that interior of the Cayman....well, one only a mother could love.

I've never really understood the criticism of the gearbox as being too slow or not involving enough. Set up properly, it's at least as fast as a manual gear change, which most Petrolheads still lament the move away from......so how can it be too slow? And in terms of involving, it is far more involving than an automatic or DCT box because they are too quick and you really don't feel the mechanical process of the gear change at all. So for me, unless you get a manual - which of course never appeared in the GS - it is the best gearbox out there in terms of involvement, which to a largeextent comes from the fact that it's speed and feel is more like a manual and less like an auto or DCT. I once had an auto 997 and the gear change was absolute garbage using the buttons on the steering wheel

Exactly there is nothing wrong with Cambio Corsa if you understand what's going on and also know how to drive.
