It was my understanding that MD will not touch a GS / 4200 clutch with a brown stick. But maybe things have changed.

to be fair I've not asked MD about it yet, I had just assumed, since they do loads of Ferrari clutches, and a few Lambo clutches (including my most recent clutch change 3 years ago). I will ask Andy when I see him next month as I'm doing another clutch clutch on my Murcielago (bear in mind 4 "race starts" will cook a factory clutch in a Murci).

I'm super happy with my recently purchased QP 4.2 F1. I already own a Murcielago e-gear. I live in central London and drive from home in Westminster to work in Mayfair, or the gym Shepards Bush (Westfield) with no issues with either car. You learn to drive these cars in traffic; just drive it like an actual manual, as it is. There is no difference between the Maserati, Ferrari and Lamborghini versions of these gearboxes in that the electronics and actuators are Magnetti Marelli, the pumps Denso, and clutches by Valeo (murcielago has the same friction plate as a 599). Somehow know one complains about the Ferraris in traffic, yet they have the same hardware and software driving the electro-hydraulics. I don't know why people think clutch wear is an issue in the Maserati; many get 40K or more out of a clutch. For comparison you'd be lucky to get 25K out of a clutch in the Murcielago owing to the AWD system and gearing (KISS point at 1350 rpm, but 1500 rpm is near 20mph... so an issue in slow traffic) further a clutch change is under £2K in a Maser, and £4.5K-5K average for a Murcielago as in the mid engine car its an engine + trans out job to change the e-gear clutch...

Where can tyou find a cliutch change for under 2k? Mine has recnelty let go on my 08 MC Shift, and first quote was nearly 4k!

you should be able to get the clutch kit (parts) for £1500 (or less). At that price its £2K.

I can't vouch for their service, as I do my own work on my cars, but that looks a fair price for labour for the job based on the DIY guides.

When I was initially interested in a GTS I was informed the clutch change on that is about £4k and for a GS about £2k. So anyone who can do a clutch change on a MC for £2k beggars belief.
SD2/3 is absolute must to set the clutch up correctly and it should be done via someone who has a lot of experience of replacing clutches. I'd suggest a good independent specialist.

You can do a clutch change yourself, and just pay for the clutch bleeding and PIS set up, which is less than an hour. I do this with the Murcielago clutch. With the Murcielago you need to do this before you put the engine+trans combo back in the car (very long cables used between the tech's computer, the gearbox and the car). You don't need to do this on the Maserati's; just do the clutch change and either pay for a tech with the computer to come to your garage, or tow your car to their garage.

I think whether its a Lamborghini, Ferrari or Maserati people get all to carried away with the "exotic" nature of them all. Fact is the same procedure is done on a selespeed alfa. The only difference is for an alfa, anyone can afford the software to do the job at home (under £200 with cables). You only need a tech's computer for one step of the job; mechanically its a simple job- same as a manual gearbox- the only difference is a magnet in the annular throwout bearing (combined throwout bearing/slave cylinder) and a sensor in the bell housing.

You also need a computer to properly bleed the brakes on any modern car with ABS to open the ABS valves; the difference with this job is you can do this even on a Maserati with a Foxtell NT520 which is again under £200, but it won't do the clutch.

I see a complete clutch kit is about £1400+VAT:

https://www.eurospares.co.uk/parts/...discs-and-housing-for-f1-gearbox-51198/228738

and labour is £450+ VAT

even if the throwout bearing needs replacement, its no extra labour (needs to be removed to change clutch anyway), and its a reasonable price too (£345):

I would say I think £4K is excessive, particularly when the engine doesn't have to be removed....

Honestly, clutch changes on f1/e-gear cars are not rocket science...

Pic of me doing a clutch change on my murcielago; believe me, a lot more work than. a Maserati...

apart from needing a computer to bleed the clutch and set the clutch distance, mechanically its no different to changing the clutch on any car.
