Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Pilot Sport 5?

I’m looking for helping choosing between these tyres for my 2002 Spyder. Ordinarily the 4S would be a straightforward choice for me. I’m replacing all 4 tyres.

However, the PS4S is not made in the 265/35r18 size that I need on the rear axle of my Spyder. My choice therefore is between PS4S @ 275/35r18s or PS5 in the correct 265/35r18. The fronts need 235/40r18 which are available in both.

I’m still inclining towards the 4S and living with the 1% increase in radius. Anyone else tried this configuration? I believe the 5 to have less compliant sidewalls so giving a slightly harsher ride? Anyone able to compare the two?

As always, I appreciate the help and comments.
Can I ask where you found PS4S tyres in 275/35/18 size? I can’t find any website selling that size!!

You will struggle to get 20” GT/QP but can still be found. As for coupe, I’m not sure, Gransports you can still get them for 19’s

I found it on the Michelin website. Hopefully this link works:

Also ATS Euromaster seem to offer them. Guess I’ll find out when I try to order them!

SI recommended the Eagles for my Spyder when I replaced my tyres last year - I think the scuttle shake is slightly reduced.

I like Conti's tend to run the daily runners on them but I always find they take 500-1000 miles to bed in. Not sure what they use on the surface in production but you need to wear through it before they come on song which is good if you doing miles but pointless on the weekend toys as it takes a year or so to get them fully operational.

On a 4200 the Goodyears worked better than the Pirelli’s back in the day as they spilt sidewalls when you hit potholes.

The Goodyears were softer on the sidewalls which help with the Spyders but still a performance tyre

Fallen 452’s were excellent but they then followed it up with 453’s which were not so and after the success of the 452’s they got a bit big headed and ramped the prices up. Modern Falkens are very good

Hi, had my PS4S’s fitted a few days ago. I’m really pleased with them, excellent for both grip and ride (at least in the dry). Compliant enough for our rubbish local roads. I definitely recommend them.

Thanks to everyone who helped with feedback and advice.
